Bunk size ?

I have TTT that sleeps two but the bed is across the front of the trailer and my wife sleeps next to the wall and has to crawl over my fat self to go to the bathroom. This , of course , wakes me up and frustrates her. Above the bed/sofa is a sizable storage compartment which folds down flat wide enough for a bunk but real close to the ceiling . My question is how much space from ceiling to bunk level would I need to accomodate an average size adult ? The length and depth is fine . 6.5Lx3.5" deep. I have pics in my gallery of the triler interior. Weird question I know but I had to ask somebody. Thanks.

I have bunks for my 2 kids but they are only 5 1/2 feet long. I tried it out anyway and with the bottom of the bunk 16" from the mattress (pad) it wasn't too bad. Maybe measure the height to the sleepers shoulder while laying on their side and add a few inches. You just don't want it to feel like a CAT scan machine.....

Thanks for the reply. I figured out how to measure for the bunk and with my wife as the pattern decided 26 " is the minimum height needed. Now i have to figure how to lower the deck as I have two side windows to negotiate.

The crawling over someone issue is why I asked Steve to put in a 2nd door. Each of us can get out of our own side.
Of course that only works if you're sleeping fore to aft.

Ah, after seeing your trailer pics, I see your dilemma.

In our big travel trailer we've solved the problem by my husband taking the bed in the back, and I take the sleeper sofa in the front. We don't disturb each other with bathroom breaks or struggling for space.

I don't know what to suggest for your TTT. Good luck!

How tall are you, or the wife, when sitting up? Do you mind hitting your head when sitting up in bed?:x You not only need room above the top bunk, but above the lower bunk as well for the person sleeping down below.

Thanks for all the replies. u have decided the bunk is not an option. I can take out some cabinetd and build two singles down the side and fix the problem. really easier than the bunk (I hope)

At 55 not as romantic as once . I can easily make a slide out to join the bunks if the mood strikes. You know what they say " If this trailer's rockin' don't come aknockin'"

Gosh the mood strikes and you gonna say wait----we gotta start moving boards.Sounds like a strike out to me.

Perhaps you can move cabinets and arrange it so your head is at the top of the bed and you can both come to the bottom to get out. Big bed!!!!

That's sort of what I have in mind. Looks like the bed will be 6x6 or I can have two smaller bunks with an ailse in between
