Opinions on Hatch Interior

Boy ohhhhh Boy.. I have a decision to make here that I cant seem to decide so I would like to ask your opinion..

I have nice Finnish Birch Marine Ply on the skin of the Hatch .. which again appears very nicely in my opinion on the inside...

Now I see some have skinned the interior in full and some have left it as is ...

In ways I would like to cover the interior but again the ribs showing is nice and when all with Marine Clear applied it would look good..here are some pics..

What are the advantages or disadvantages if any? The interior ceiling has the same ply.. The Ply has not been totally installed yet but will be shortly.







What is your opinion...

Leave it alone, it looks beautiful just the way it is. Some cover the interior, some don't or some hide ugly work and some don't. You have no worries, my friend - go with what you got.

Did you insulate your bulkheads in the galley?? If not, then this is a chance to put insulation in there to help keep the tear warm/cool!! I have to say that I think it will look beautiful with a nice finish on it.

That being said I love the look of the open hatch. Would look really nice as is.
What type of insulation do you have?
I'm covering mine to hide wires tail lights and built in speakers. If you don't have to I'd probably leave it open.

Bulkheads are insulated .. entire 30 millimeters of it...

Thank You for the nice comments. Ive used a special styro thats used here for building construction.. (Blue Foam as Ive seen used in the States). Mine is 50 millimeter...in thickness.

Plus there is a vapor barrier along with it..

I will also install Marine Speakers and most likely box in the area where they will go...only in that area..

Thank You Sierrajack...Its all sanded down nicely ... just a spot or 2 yet to resand with finer grade paper..

I shall see what the outcome will be... after the clear is applied..

Then I'd leave it for sure.

I'd be tempted to stain the rafters (for lack of a better word) darker than the roof, I'm a fan of that look.

That's just my opinion.

Anyway you go it's looking good.

I wouldn't change a thing, that is great work. I wouldn't cover it with anything except a good coat of varnish.

The interior ceiling from front to back will be Birch as well and the cupboard doors with the Mahogany trim so I think it will look nice..

I skinned the inside of mine mainly because I wanted it to be as ridged as possible,and it made an incredible difference, I can pick it up at one corner and it flexes so little you have to really concentrate to see the flex.

I have wires in my hatch (tail lights and work lights) so I insulated to heeh the heat down on my food, etc. I then covered everything with some leftover filon. The filon is screwed on so I can remove it if I need access to my wires.

I will have some wires going there too..

speaker wires and one light, unless I install the speakers in the galley..

There is some real nice wire mouldings available here that can be applied to hide all the wiring..I,ll have to check on them...
