I was just wondering if anyone has used Aluma Klad before.I am not sure of the thickness, I found some of this at a salvage yard.It comes in a 4X10 sheet and weighs in at 38 Lbs.It is White on one side Gray on the other. The Aluma Klad website shows this stuff comes in diff.thickness and Colors.

Is the stuff you found smooth, or is it crimped like for roofing? I don't know anything about it, but I'm curious as to what you found.

We sometimes us that stuff for signs (we own a sign shop). It is very heavy compared to aluminum and usually costs about the same. You shouldn't have any problem with it rusting as it is designed for roofs. If you are in a bind and cannot find aluminum in your area it would work.

I think the stuff has the name of alucabond also, two sheets of aluminum with high density polyethelene plastic as a filler. Wonderful stuff to work with, my whole teardrop is covered in it. There's a plant close by that makes it and you can occasionally find some in the area. At one time they sent the set up or out of spec materials to a local recycler and you could get it pretty cheap, but that stopped about the time I started looking to cover my drop. Did find a guy that worked there and has a garage full of off color, sizes, and thickness. I paid $l.00 sqft which is about same as alu, but have bought it since at flea markets in smaller sizes 2x3 or 2x4 for as little as $.50 sq ft. You can route it , drill it, score with a table saw or V tip router bit and and bend to 90 degrees if you want to. Pop rivets work great with it. I covered my whole tear with it top and sides just used metal roofing screws with the washer and rubber grommet to attach to the spars and sides same thing worked great . Did have a little trouble bending an 18" radius on the front end, had to put 3 ratched straps and about 200 lbs of dumbells on to hold it in place until I could get the screws to it other than that no problem. Probably my next one I'd just go with .040 alu on the top and still use the laminated on the sides.

I just attached sides with stainless steel screws with metal washer and rubber grommet from fastenal. I figured the stainless wouldn't rust and stain the sides. The pieces I used were a shade different in color and ended up painting with house paint to get them all to look the same. The material is stiff enough it doesn't buckle or warp. Be sure they are wood screws, the self tapping for metal don't hold as good.
