Sealing Up Window, Vent Fan, Hurricane Hinge, etc...

Hope to paint the TD this coming weekend and set the "goodies" the following weekend. Just like to see what everyones thoughts were on sealing windows, Fantistic Fan, door jams, galley hinge, etc....
1.) using putty tape?
2.) use Geocel or NP1 type sealant?
3.) combination of 1 and 2?

Most any RV store will have putty tape. Haven't found it in the Box Stores -yet. Comes in a roll about 4.50 a roll. Couple rolls more than enough.

How difficult is it to take something out that has been sealed with EBS?

G, the couple of things we have tried to remove, came easily enough with a putty knife worked under the edge to start it up...the EBS forms a rubber type seal and seems to work very well...by the way, I agree that putty tape is good stuff as well...make sure it is somewhat warm and it will "squish" out real good...

I vote for 3
if you just use the putty tape, you will be trying to clean the dust and crap that sticks to it off. It tends to bleed out, and dirt and crud loves it.
You can use it to set the parts, then clean off the squeeze out and seal around with a thin bead of geocel rv sealer. you will be much happier in the long run

I used putty tape. The guy I bought the windows from gave me a roll. There was enough to do both windows and the Fantastic fan. It did "Squish out when I tightened the screws down but it doesn't bother me. If it did, all it would take is a razor blade to remove the excess.

Well, we have votes for a combination of all three... how 'bout that. I looked around the motorhome last night and there's a PILE of "sealant" around everything, windows, vents, etc. so I'm sure they used a combination of both too. Don't know if ya'll have ever heard of NP1, but it is the EXACT same color as aluminum and it has MUCH better characteristics than any silicone product (I'm not a fan of silicone).

I know it's been talked about before but... I can't find the thread..do you guys seal the TD to the frame, even if minimally. I was thinking about putting some putty tape between the body and the frame. Thought it'd help keep any "vibration" from wearing off my undercoating.

Keith...we did...we built the body independent of the frame...when we set the body on the chassis, we applied a fat stripe of painters caulk(arcyliconized silicone) to the top of the steel and dropped the body on top of it...our thinking was much the same as yours...don't know how much diff it made BUT we did it anyway........
