Imus--Stay or Go?

Postby Ira » Wed Apr 11, 2007 1:31 pm

I never liked the guy...because I've always find him insufferably boring.

But the way some black "leaders" are crucifying this guy--like Sharpton and Jackson, the two biggest rabble-rousing scam artists ever and both guillty of a thousand times worse--I say this is total bullshit.

So I'm siding with Imus.

I am sure my heart can't take this Ira. You are going to loose your lib. card for sure this time. However I agree that Sharpton and Jackson are more than full of it, Low life jerks.

That said: So is Imus. I really can't stand the condescending jerk. Lets see, be drunk and womanizer all your life and dare to make that kind of statement bout a group of women because of the way they look. They just not good enough looking for the great man. P!$$ on Imus.

So you get fired now for saying what you think? But Sharpton and Jackson are totally immune because they're black, but doing far worse?

Plus, did you SEE those women? We ain't talking all that lady-like here.

And Miriam, liberals come in all stripes:

I LIVED through the worst of the Sharpton years in Brooklyn--and the list of atrocities this shmuck commited is too long to go into. It ripped my HEART out when they invited this scumbag to address the Democratic convention 6 years ago.

And let's not forget Jackson's New York "Hymietown" comment.

Speech is speech, and it's STILL legal.

I'm not actually siding with Imus - what he said was inexcusable. But as the Brits would say, it was a "one off." Al, Jessie - if you want to find disrespect and contempt for black women, go after R. Kelly and Bow Wow.

Ira, the mans attitude sucks. Always has. I know you of all people aren't going to give me a free speech lecture. When you are employed in a public media your job is to be what the people want and not cause trouble for management. In this case the management is a suck up for loud mouth creeps.

When you work for yourself and live by your mouth and how much trouble you can stir up you get to say anything.

I really couldn't care how the "Ladys" looked. Not my favorite word and it implies that looks are a determiner for being a LADY. And since when was looking lady like a qualifier for being a good basket ball player. :R

I knew I like you Ira. First the picture of the HOT chick for your avatar and now this.

He gets paid to say what the thinks. That's what he did and now many people don't like the way he thinks so they want him fired. They are saying what they think.

I say, get it off my television, I don't give a damn :x . If his words wer truley offensive enough for him to lose him job then it will happen, here's how. People will stop supporting the companies that advertise on his show so the advertisers will pull there spots and his show will not make money. Once his show doesn't make money he will be goven the opportunity to pursue other interest. Simple. Let time deal with it, everthing works out in the end, bad people get what they deserve and good people get their just reward.

My opinion, please don't ask my employer to fire me for stating what I think.

That's what pissing me off:

It's not like the majority of Americans give a crap. The majority of blacks sure didn't give a crap about "hymietown."

It's the rabble-rousing black "leadership" (and again that word is in quotes) who are just vying for airtime, power, and a perceived vengeance.

For God's sake--does anyone really listen to this show in the first place? He's got the lowest ratings out there.

I watch Imus as I do my a.m. computer work. I find his guests take on the news way more enlightening than main stream media, which I try to avoid at all costs...

To toss him for a couple of stupid remarks would be dumb.. and it won't happen anyway. He brings in too much ad revenue to a stumbling msnbc (he is their biggest draw)....

Regarding Sharpton and Jackson, same ole- same ole "poor me" stance... all the white guys fault.. keep the welfare coming..

I don't believe it! I'm actually liking what Ira is saying here. Yep, Sharpton and Jackson are two of the biggest if not THE biggest rabblerousing buttheads in the universe.
Did you watch the TODAY show when Merideth asked about using the word "Hymietown"? Man, that woman was pissed....I don't blame her.
I never watched more than about 1 minute of Imus before I went running to the sink to hurl - that guy is a complete jerk.

I knew I had the right end of this stick. Imus and Rosie cuddling up together. How sick is that. 8)
The April 11 edition of "The View" again discussed Don Imus’s recent racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. Rosie O’Donnell likewise continued her tirade about Imus’ alleged "free speech." In a statement too bizarre even for Joy Behar, Rosie said the next step is the "thought police" locking everyone up in Guantanamo Bay without a lawyer. Perhaps Rosie is feeling the heat after her own controversial remarks.

http://newsbusters.org/node/11976

You don't suppose Imus is taking a hint from Rosie about boosting his numbers.

Maybe I live a sheltered life but I never heard of this yahoo before all Al and Jesse provided him a lot of limelight by being so distressed by his comments.

Free speech is not so free if one is forced to apoligize everytime they 'offend' someone or group. Most people will recognize an idiot without someone pointing them out.

I think Miriam might be right. A child that pokes his sister does so not to make her scream but to gain attention.

As I recall...didn't Rush get dumped from Monday Night Football for a much less egregious comment?, whether or not you like any of the celebrities involved, it does appear that there a mixed bag of standards...Doug
