Well, after about 6 months of insane work schedules and no free time, I've finally gotten back to work on the TD (aka the Kitschy Kamper)! :D

Only 1001 things left to do and she'll be campable... :?
She'll never be a sleek shiny beauty, but she should fit in with my herd of VWs just fine, LOL!

TD #2, The Meanderin' 'Mander, is already in the planning stages...a very small (40"x72"), very light woody to pull behind my VW Thing.

Great new name!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Great looking Thing! We've got a '73 but I don't think I'd pull a trailer with it. You're braver than me! Great job on the Tear, love the colors!

I really wanted to call her 'The Meanderin Mander', but that name just seems to go better with the small light woody I have planned than this gawdy behemoth, LOL!

Sort of...I've roughed out the doors and test fit the frames...to keep the weight down, I'll probably just go with a simple plexi cutout for the windows with the 'man in the moon' frosted and copper foiled back onto the main window. I wanted to do a larger 'real' piece between the interior and galley, but because of the way my shelves are positioned on the inside, it wouldn't look right. I'm going to do at least one small piece on the galley wall, but I haven't decided on the shape or theme yet.

Love your '73, very nice! TD#2 will have to be very very lightweight for me to pull with the Thing. I'm thinking ~3.5' wide x 6' long with no galley, basically a really small bed in a box, LOL.

5'x8' on a 4'x8' frame: Walls and floor are 19/32" (~0.59") 5 layer plywood (leftover from another project), subfloor is framed with leftover 2"x4"s. Primer is a high adhesion household brand (Zinsser) and the paint is high quality exterior latex in a satin finish. The headliner and top are 1/8" tempered masonite with all the cut edges sealed with epoxy. I threw some unsealed scraps out in the yard last August as a test. After 9 months of exposure to heat, cold, and generous amounts of rain they haven't expanded or seperated. With epoxy on the edges and multiple coats of primer/paint, I think the tempered stuff will work fine for the roof. There's more info in my build journal: http://www.naturefrog.com/teardrops.htm

Hi Kristi!

It's a very creative teardrop you have built. I also like the very artistic finsh it's going to have.

I'm sure you are aware of Roly Nelson's "1/4 Stacker", but in case you missed it:

Here it is at the Lake Perris gathering:
