Math Trick

Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you.
Personally I would like to know who came up with this and why that person is not running the country. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your Head) Or try to solve it on paper.
1. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the Area code)
2. Multiply by 80
3. Add 1
4. Multiply by 250
5. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
7. Subtract 250
8. Divide number by 2

Do you recognize the answer ??

It's not that complicated. Look at it algabraically. Let x = the first three digits and y the last four.

1. x
2. 80x
3. 80x + 1
4. 20000x + 250
5. 20000x + 250 + y
6. 20000x + 250 + 2y
7. 20000x + 2y
8. 10000x + y

No, I trie my home number and the first digit of the last four numbers is 0. I think that screwed it up.

Are you adding or subtracting in step 7? It's easy to associate the 250 in step 4 with the 250 in step 7. It will work if you follow the directions exactly no matter how many zeros you have in your last 4 numbers.. Danny
