Hi everyone!

Hi, my name is Denise and my husband's name is Macon. We live in Siletz, Oregon. I have been looking for a small trailer or plans and everytime I searched online I found teardrops. I was intrigued, and followed the links to this fine forum. I am so impressed with what everyone has built! Very nice job, everyone and to those in progress, keep up the good work! I have an old boat trailer that I thought wasn't very good until we started cleaning it up. My brothers brought it home from portland with a boat strapped to it, when my dad saw it he said the only thing holding it together was the boat! He made a tubular steel new frame and fixed it up for my brothers to use, about 10 years ago. Now, my dad's been gone for 3 years now, and my older brother as well, but when I drug that trailer out of the brush to clean it up I recognized the welding on it, (if that makes sense, my dad was an excellent builder of things, and welding was no exception). When I'm out there in his old shop working on the trailer I feel closer to him. My husband is just happy that I want to work on the trailer, period. It gave him an excuse to buy a new mig welder! :vroom:

Denise, you have a great opportunity to make something that will be a little part of Dad and a part of you...I'm sure he'd be honored if you were to build a tear on the frame...go for it...that way, Dad is kinda camping with you...doug

Welcome to the forum from another Oregonian. Look around a while and check the Hall of Fame at the top of the page for ideas. Also be sure and check the Generic Benroy plans above too for an idea of the build process.

Nice to meet you guys, feels like I already know most of you 'cause i've been lurking and watching for some time... 8)
I have the Generic plans as a guide, but I really like the CAD design of the 2x2 12' by 4' original that sleeps four... just need it a bit wider as my kids are as tall as me and I'm 5'9"!! and they are 12 and 7 years old! But they are sure bubbling around as this will be our first camper as a family...Dad had an old Nomad trailer we went to Disneyand in in 1984. HOT....

Denise and Macon glad you found us. Keeping the man in tools is a great way to further your building fun. :D Mine gets new tools every time I have a challenge. :R  He's getting a router next. I know he will love it. ;)

Welcome to the Sand Box!!! No throwing or eating sand please!!

I am in the process of building the Generic Benroy and the plans ROCK!!! It is great for a first time builder. Remember you can also let the kids sleep in a tent next to the TD. They would probably love that too.

Anywho, Don't forget to take pictures and keep us updated of your build.

Denise,

you can easily modify the 2+2 plans to be any width you want. I am designing mine to be 6 feet wide. My wife wants a King size mattress in it so that my daughter and 2 dogs will have room, me I will probably have to sleep outside.

You can also have the kids sleep in a tent

Hi Denise!

I can't imagine a better start to your tear than a very special trailer. Now you have the opportunity to add a bit of yourself to it.

Go for it!

Macon had changed the settings on my camera phone, and the picture is him holding the rotary brush. He does look kinda pink in it. the pics are in my personal album. I really want to be working on that trailer but it's the work week and I haven't stopped running around since Monday.

That exactly how i feel about it! Whenever I had a new project I was interested in, Dad would encourage me to work on it, then he'd help,..then he'd take over.. then he'd have the whole thing done! Dad was the most awesome person...there was a saying amongst the neighbors, "if Dennis (my dad) couldn't fix it, better throw it away!"
