any one of you had a prostate operation?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

any one of you had a prostate operation?

Postby Ron Dickey » Tue Apr 17, 2007 12:23 am

I found have a prostate that is need of attention according to my urologist.
I can have it removed
Have it froze or parts of it ( they say it will grow back)
kimo ( I want to stay away from)
I have heard one can have some sort os kimo stuff put in prostate.

Wed. 4/19/07, I talk with a Dr. who can freeze it.
Heating up rest of body and freezing with liquid Nitregon.

I have some sign of cancer but can not feel it.

Got any input on this. (please Keep answer to a min.)

My first thought was just remove it.
Now I am not sure of my direction.
Pushed back my op date for more research (first Operation for me)

this slows my build once again. but I am still building it in my brain. and buying stuff to put in it.

If you can't help Paryers will help Too.

From what I know...there seems to lot of "unknowns" on this surgery, and that bothers me. Get a second or third opinion (that's the frustrating part as doctor's disagree). I'm confident that you will check it out, make the right decision , and get'er taken care of!!! God bless, my prayers are with you.

Ron, sorry to hear that you have prostate cancer. Hope it gets all cleared up for you. Can't offer any ideas, I went through colon cancer so it is different. Will be wishing you well.

Ron our prayers are with you. I know this is going to be a hard decision for you or any family. Let your family help. Sharing this will make it easier on you all.

Mikes dad died as a result of Prostate cancer. He lived five years past the date the doctor gave. He got a late diagnosis and refused to treat it aggressively. The thing he did do was get healthy. He started walking and then running. He ate a good balanced diet and took herbal supplements.

Don't know if the herbs helped but getting healthy and active sure did. His quality of life was certainly better.

Bless you and your family

prosate cancer

Postby retiredcamper » Tue Apr 17, 2007 10:25 am

Ron, I had prostate surgury in the Fall of 2003. You did not give enough information for anyone to give you advise.

You will need to concider the following:

1. Your Age

If you are 80 years old you might do nothing, but if you are in your 50's you might take the most drastic step.

2. How Long You Expect to Live

If you expect to live only five years you might do nothing but if you expect to live 40 more years then your decision will be differant.

3. The Grade and Volume of the Cancer

If the grade is low you may do nothing and just the opposite if its high grade or large volume.

4. Would You be Willing to Accept ED

Some of the proceedures might cause ED while others don't.

5. Your Overall Health, Including Weigh
If you have a weak heart you might not want to risk surgury.

6. The Reason for Your Cancer

If you were in Vietnam you are more likely to get other cancers. I get a full disibility from the VA because my cancer was caused by Agent Orange. You do not have to prove it was caused by AO; you just need to prove you were in Vietnam (DD214).

I hope this helps.

Ron I have a slightly enlarged prostate. So far no problems. But if it ever gets to the cancer stage that prostate is gone. Now that's what I would do. You will have to decide what's best for you. Whatever you decide I wish you the best.

I thought about this all night. What do you mean by "some sign of cancer?"

Have you had a biopsy or was your PSA count high with some swelling.

Prostate

Postby JohnF » Wed Apr 18, 2007 4:04 pm

For God's sake, don't let them cut you, ream you out, or freeze you.

You'll end up impotent, and probably incontinent.

The Doctor's don't care - they don't have to wear the diapers !

Right Now - repeat - immediately - get on Amazon.com and order a copy of Larry Clapp's book "Prostate Health in 90 Days."

I did, and completely cured myself.

Larry was an attorney who had prostate cancer. They wanted to cut him apart. He refused, and studied the matter enough that he earned a PhD in the subject. He's cured many, many with his common sense approach.

The book costs only around $25 - about the same as 2 or 3 packages of diapers.

Do yourself a favor and get his book NOW>

:o I think I'll buy the book for Mike. Guys all men will get prostate cancer if they live long enough. Might have to live till your 200 but it will happen and good health is essential to a long life.

By the same token we will all end up in diapers if we live long enough. The point is to live long enough to be a burden to your kids.

Not all surgery ends in incontinence. If you catch it soon enough ED isn't even guaranteed.

Doctors are rarely insensitive to patients quality of life. Mine sure wasn't. Didn't want me to be scarred but understood the alternative. The look on his face when he told me the lymph nodes look clean said it all.

Find a doctor you can trust. Ask for references. Join a group and talk about it.

BTW the herb Mikes dad took was Essiac Tea.

You found the cure for cancer? I doubt that but I think you meant to say your cancer is in remittance.

What is right for one person is not nessessary right for everyone. Each man has to determine what is right for them. I had surgery but can't say that is the answer.

I would recommend anyone that has prostate cancer search all avenues, which includes the book mentioned, but also more conventional remedies.

As far as incontinence and impotance -I have incontinence from surgery but instead of diapers I take a pill that works, I was impotant for about a year after surgery and a little blue pill took care of that. Now I don't even need the little blue pill.

I deverloped cancer at age 53, if I would have been 63 my treatment would have been differant.

Don't just listen to someone that says they have the anwer, listen to everyone and make up your mind based on what is important to you.

Thanks guys,

I will be 58 in July.if I need dypers I will just have a line that leads outside the trailer. It should be enough to keep the wild animals away.

Tomarrow I go in for 2nd opinion. This DR does freezing. the other organs are wamed up to 119 deg. and then liquid nitregen freezes parts or the whole thing. and they say it will grow back. only time would tell.

As you guys say it is a guesing game.

My Doc. took a pint of blood from me for all kinds of tests. I got a x-ray of my chest do not know how low it went. Have not heard back on results. I also had a tread mill test. and have not heard the full results except I need to exersize more. i am not as fit as I thought.

I can't wait to long but I have asked about the dr. who would remove it and I have asked several medical workers who have heard nothing bad about him.
Thanks for the suport and good thought and Prayers. This is the only forum I belong to so far. and it feels like family.

I will let you all know how I am doing.

My dad had the freezing done about 3 years ago at age 72 and seems to have had no premanent problems with ED or incontinence, he did say the doctor said it was likely he would need the procedure again in 8 to 10 years if he lives long enough. good luck with what ever you decide!

Ron, I really hope things go well for you.

They didn't for Kevin Hauber, a man I know who lives near you and me in SLO. Kevin wrote a book about his vasectomy that left him in pain. http://www.dontfixit.org

I've seen his book for sale in the SLO Barnes and Noble where you could browse it free.

Link to a New Times write up about Kevin http://newtimesslo.com/archives/cov_stories_2001/cov_02082001.html

Vasectomies gone bad

This simple procedure may hurt more than you think

BY STACEY WARDE

Kevin Hauber would love nothing more than to walk down the street without excruciating pain, or to enjoy making love to his wife without the searing stabbing sensations he sometimes feels when she touches him.

Following his vasectomy on Aug. 12, 1999, Hauber returned to his San Luis Obispo urologist several times to complain of pain and discomfort.

Finally the pain was so unbearable he asked his urologist, "OK, level with me. Why do I feel like I've been kicked in the balls all the time?"

What Hauber's urologist never told him, what he later discovered on his own, was that he was suffering from post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS), a malady that he estimates afflicts 6 to 25 percent of the 50 million men in the U.S. who have had this surgical procedure. The range depends on the medical data you look at and how you define chronic pain.

Additionally, Hauber says, nearly 75 percent of men who undergo vasectomies experience autoimmune responses to sperm in their bodies. In such cases the body manufactures antibodies that attack sperm cells.
