Hello from the Show me State

My name is Daemien, I go by "Deacon", I live in St. Ann, MO. I am very interested in building a teardrop trailer for an upcoming trip in 2009.

I will be traveling coast to coast and came to the conclusion that I could build a teardrop for far less than the cost of staying in a hotel for 3 weeks.

I don't want a fancy teardrop, portable stove, cooler etc.

Looking forward to talking to everyone and getting help and hints. Glad to be part of the group, reading the forums you seem like a great bunch.....although I think some of you are a little crazy....but then again who travels coast to coast in two homemade vehicles......only a crazy person.

Welcome Deacon...glad you finally made it thru AOL...yes we are a little(lot) crazy around here...it helps keep us sane...don't forget that pics are the coin of the realm around here and have fun on this new journey..............

Deacon, welcome and don't worry... you're not only... Everybody thinks we're crazy .... at least to me... until I show them how to lay down, and I put my hands behind my head and stretch out... and tell them it only cost about $1800... and I pretty much did it myself !

The laughs are not on me then !!!

Look for a gathering or a teardrop owner close to you soon and look at one in person... don't be afraid to lay down, ask questions, open and close the hatch your self, etc.... you'll be so pumped to build your own!!!

You should have FIVE built by then.

You get a rear engine, V8 motorcycle trike. This is what I will pull my teardrop coast to coast with in 2009, if all goes well.

Ira, I am building the trike at the same time so things are a little hectic. This is my first teardrop so building both at the same time is going to put a serious crimp in my fun money....not that there is much.

Last time I had one of those I ended up building one of these.



Sounds like you might need a pretty heavy front end to hold that thing down!!

Funny thing is... I have been thinking about building a pretty wild trike too:
With a Mazda 12A rotary engine, springer front end, custom chassis...etc. I already have all the parts I need.

We're in Rayville just N. E. of KC. A V8 trike sounds wild and should look great pulling a tear, looking forward to the pics of that beast. My youngest son and I have built a couple of VW rail buggies and there always a lot of fun. Can't imagine what haveing all that HP behind a single wheel would be like though.

Isn't someone else new here who's building a TD to tow with a tike? Just recently. (When I get to the office, I'll look.)

He didn't want a galley either, and I suggested building on the Harbor 4 by 4 frame--but extending it front and back 18" to give a 7' length.
