Cyclekart- help with throttle

Help!

I am 90% done with my cyclekart(go kart) project but I need help. I decided to be neighborhood friendly and purchase an electric motor for the noise factor. However, I have one problem. The electric motor comes with a hand throttle as shown in the pic below but I want a floor pedal like the gas powered karts.

How does one go about converting the throttle mechanism to a pedal?

Why not leave it as it is for safety. ATV's have a similar setup and since it looks like all you have is PVC between the driver & a hard object that thumb throttle could be a lifesaver. IMHO Danny

Whether it is gas or electric the principle of the floor pedal is the same, to go faster you must pull the cable and to slow down you must push the cable. The pedal does this by pushing down on one end of a lever and raising the other end that pulls the cable. When you release the pedal a spring lowers the cable end of the lever and raises the foot end of the lever.

This principle is the same if the throttle cable is on the handlebar(think motorcycle)
