The Yurps have got to be laughing their asses off at our pissing and moaning about the high cost of gas in the US...

Mike,
Remember, the Prius uses batteries and those are scary. The system can generate up to 600 volts obviously enough to fry a small army. Fire departments have to be trained on how to deal with that car in an accident. The batteries if ever replaced would be about $5,000.00 and the heart of the unit, the "generator" runs about the same amount of money. I don't know if anyone would ever keep one long enough to ever change any major components and sure ought to kill the idea of buying one as a used car. I'm kinda eyeing a motorcycle but then again, those ain't fun to ride when it's 18 below zero - so what's a person to do? My truck is 16 months old and I haven't put 12,000 miles on it yet which is far below the national average. Question: Has any one anywhere said just what is causing gas prices to rise?

Hi gang,

I drive a Prius and love it. It gets 40 & 50 mpg all the time. As far as battaries go I don`t worry about them. They are guaranteed for 100 k miles. Being retired it will be a long time before I put 100k on it.

I've been riding mine a lot more the last four years or so. It does save me a lot of cash at about 50 mpg. I only use my Nissan PU when I have to and it gets about 22 mpg. So, I fill up the truck about once a month, most of the time. Then again... I just like motorcycles and have for 45 years. They can be more dangerous than cars, particularly for new riders... But, I prolly save $100. a month riding the bike. I generally spend about 10 bucks a week on gas. 8)

I sold mine the past fall. But will be replacing it next spring. It was 95% of my transportation. My van never was used since buying the bike. . My biggest concern on motorcycles is the cell phone users. They are dangerous. Nobody will admit to being a dangerous while using the cell phone, but they are.
If I was younger, I would live in a place where motorcycles can be ridden year around.

podunkfla....... Have you ever pulled a trailer with your moto bike?

Not with my current ride... No hitch yet. But, I did with some of the Harley's I have had. Only the little trailers made out of a car-top cargo hauler. I've built 4 of them and ended up selling them all. I also built a few single wheeled bike trailers about 15 years ago. They worked really well. I have never tried anything like a little tear; but I am intrigued by the idea. I may have to build a super-light little tear and give it a go sometime. ;)

I used to pilot a bike for years when I lived in Las Vegas but it seems like cars began to develop gun sights and people's brains were way up their butts. Strange thing about riding a motorcycle, when you climb aboard and crank it over - you magically become invisible.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE! :o You do have to learn to drive for the other idiots out there... Or you won't survive! I've had to dodge two of them in the last two days... It just reminded me I need to install those obnoxiously loud air horns (130 db) I bought for the bike.

I was gonna buy a cheap little Honda Rebel (used) like a few days before I found this site, but with limited funds, I opted to get going on the TD.

Bikes just scare the hell out of me anyway, and as Brick can attest, Florida is like a war zone out there.

Heck…they don't even see my TRUCK half the time! What chance do I have on a 250 Rebel?
Here we go again!

I've found the answer to higher gas prices.. I drive less. I also use my scooter when I can.....

If demand drops, price will drop... moaning about prices does nothing... not buying gas on one day does nothing.... changing our driving habits and what we drive will affect gas prices.

In the old days, we lived close to work.. now we want to live in the country and work in the city... so, pay the price...

Some of my friends in England say many drive 40-60 miles to work one way... same here in the USA.... your wanna play? You're gonna pay...

If you want to reduce the price, you have to reduce the demand... very simple...

Gee Arne,

I think I said that already,LOL,but glad to see one other person agrees with me. Trouble is with people today they think they have to be everywhere,or be bored. People with kids nowdays tend to use sports, and social activities, malls to be their babysitters, and piss away gas getting them to & from. Keep your kids at home nurture them, teach them manners, instead of dragging them all over the place wasting gas. Adults are not much better having to be "out" all the time. You will never change their thinking until it comes down to the food,or gas choice .

I have two cars, and can easily keep the mileage of both well under 10,000 miles a year. We are fortunate to have stores, doctors, and work within a few miles of our home. The wife & I adapted to doing errands driving to & from work, and walk or ride bikes to doctors/dentist apointments, grocery store, etc. Yes, we go on long distance trips with teardroppers, and canoe paddling trips, but that is about all the milage that is added up during a year on both cars, the rest is have to driving.

Quit your complaining, and do something about it. Adapt new thinking now ,your future may depend on it when the oil runs out. Other countries have it worse then us,and they adapted, and are also leading the technology needed to do without oil. It's about time America does the same,or we will always be at the hand of big oil at home ,and abroad.

End of rant.

Everyone complains because it's so very easy to do, I do it, you do it, they do it. Now what will it take to get a few million Americans united for a big front to end this stinking gas rape? Seems like 9/11 got everyone fired up and thousands helped on that - does it take something like that to happen again to get us united? There's no doubt that we depend on gasoline and oil products to propel us through our daily lives.
Here's a myth... Change your oil every 3,000 miles!!! What absolute hype, bunk and BS.... The oil companies want you to change your oil that often because you buy their products more often and spend more money and they get richer. IF you insist on using a petroleum based oil - change it every 5-6,000 miles. General motors has adopted that thought and now most of their oil change shops advertise that very same idea. Now, save money - change your oil over to synthetic and while you're at it, change your way of thinking. I change my oil every 25,000 miles and I have done that for years simply because I use synthetic oil and good filters. Now anyone can jump on this and attempt to give me an argument about what I just said but I have answers and I can prove that we can get off the foreign oil bandwagon and we can quit depending on OPEC. I invite you to go to my website and read for yourself - the address is at the bottom of my message. I haven't hidden my name, address or anything else and I am not advertising - simply trying to get folks to quit changing your oil so often and helping some unpronouncable named oil shiek from getting your money. Yes, we need the gas - it's the oil we can seriously cut back on and hurt them right in the wallet or what ever they carry money in.

SYNTHETIC OILS

Postby Catoosa Grani » Sun May 06, 2007 8:04 pm

Sierrajack, I will have to agree with what you have said. A few years back we started using the synthetic oil and have noticed a lot of difference in how clean the oil burns. We will back you up all the way! We are sold on it from experience in the usage and oil changes. We also use the fuel additives and find it ups our fuel mileage.

Keep up the good work!
