Teardropping Will Get Me Out Of Debt!

Postby H-Balm » Mon May 07, 2007 4:51 am

Hello everybody!

I just wanted to say hello and pledge my committment to building a teardrop. I logged on to the site last summer, and have been an on again, off again lurker since.

No more!

I have set a goal for myself (my family has no choice)... which involves building a teardrop. You see, I like far too many Americans carry a sizeable load of credit card debt. I admit my faulty decisions, but it is time to move on. Time to solve the problem! We have devised a plan where we finish by my daughter's birthday in November. We have 8 months to finish. WE WILL!

Why? Because once the debt is gone we will begin a teardrop (built with CASH of course)! I will be using the next 7-8 months reading, reading, and reading about teardrops. This training will be eerily similiar to be locked away in a mountain monastary learning to be a Kung Fu master. I will start posting more, and look foward to hearing from you all.

Oh and since you LOVE pictures.... here's what I have started so far:

(Picture beginning)

(Picture end)

Yup, a great big nothing!

Hi, H!!!

I used to spend some summers up your way. Where exactly are you? Near Port Jervis? Skinner's Falls? Barryville?

I LOVE it up there!

Good luck with the build--but you can actually start salvaging the trash around town NOW!!! You'll be amazed the stuff you'll find, and the ideas you'll come up with!
Here we go again!

Welcome to the Light H,

My family and I decided to do the same thing last year. We are just a couple of paychecks away from being completely debt free except for our house. If you are looking for some real inspiration and encouragement, try this website Debt Clicky.

But however you do it, go for it. My wife and I have such a peace with all debt gone, and we are never going back.

H-Balm,
It's good to have a goal. Like Ira says, keep an eye open for freebies as you work on your design. Being debt-free is a real challenge but can be accomplished if you work at it. We are in year three of a four year program and will be debt-free (except for our house) very soon (way ahead of schedule thanks to my wife). It's a great feeling. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Tom,
My wife got hooked on Dave Ramsey a couple years ago and we are one credit card away from being debt free. It is an amazing feeling. When you look back you wonder how the heck you got to that point in the first place. It will definitley put a strain on a marriage.

I had a good upbringing, we didn't beleive in using credit cards. They where only used if in an emergy when traveling and where paid off the next month. Besides I couldn't afford to be in debt. The only montly payments I have is my house payments besides the utilty bills. It will feel good to have my house paid off someday.

It's very difficult to get by without credit cards. Try reserving a room or car without one. When I built my tear, I bought everything on an as needed basis. It was slow going but I got an annual bonus which allowed me to buy the more expensive items. I'm happy to say that with the exception of a check card, nothing was bought on credit, It can be done.

Welcome to the forum. We support what you are doing. Get out of debt already!!!

regarding the teardrop, I'd sure like to see what you have planned. Give us some pics... 2d or 3d. Draw on a napkin, or draw it with paint... just draw it. I wanna know you are serious about this... ;)

s4son,

We are $1077 away from being qualified for a debt free scream. I can hardly wait. We are in Ramseys Financial Peace University class right now and we are determined to be completely debt free except for our house before the class is over.

AsianFlava,

Anything you can do with a credit card you can do with a debit card, except pay later. Look at the Visa website. If you process the transaction as if it were credit (i.e. you don't have to enter your PIN) the transaction is subject to all the same safety measures and protections that a regular credit card would give you.

I just reserved a car for a trip. On the reservation it specifically says a debit card will not work, you have to use an actual credit card. You can pay with a debit card (when you turn the car in) but you cannot reserve/rent with one.

I found it on their website:

Debit Cards

When renting in the U.S., debit and check cards may only be used in conjunction with proof of a round trip travel ticket (airline, cruise ship or train) at time of rental.

A debit/check card is considered to be any non-credit card bearing the VISA, MasterCard or Discover Card logo.

Any other non-credit card without the VISA, MasterCard or Discover Card logo is not accepted.

For pick-ups in the United States, without proof of roundtrip ticket, debit or check cards are only accepted when returning the vehicle.

It says, "at time of rental" so If you're reserving online, then you can't use a debit card.

AsianFlava,

That is interesting, I have not rented a car for a while. Well, without a gun to my head, I do not plan to use a credit card any more. Oh well, unless I am going out of the country, I much prefer to drive and take my own car.

H-Balm, Welcome to the world of teardrops. Spending a lot of time reading and deciding what you are doing is a good thing anyway before you start building.
I also applaud your decision to become debt free. :applause: :applause: You are also setting a good example for your daughter and any other children if you have any more.
We have a 22 & 24 year old, and have always taught them its alright to have a credit card, just make sure whatever you charge you can pay off at the end of the month. So far they have always done that. All the interest and penalties can mount up so fast it isn't funny.
In the mean time ask lots of questions, work on your plan and have FUN.
Martha ;)
