New Guy From Georgia (Astronomer)

Postby Smitty Smith » Sun May 13, 2007 1:09 am

I've just joined this forum a few days ago. Ye gads! What a load of information here! Oooh yeah, and recipes too! :Flippin Burger:

I've been looking at these trailers on line for a year or so, seen only 2 in the flesh. I can't decide what to build, there's so many nice designs. First off I think I'll purchase Steve Frederick's shop manual and get pointed in the right direction.

I'm a mechanic by trade and a do-it-yourselfer all my life so this is going to be fun. Sorry, no pics of me for an avatar yet - I'll have to dig up some.

Oh, and I'm an amateur astronomer so that's mainly why I'm interested in building a trailer. We like to take our scopes and get out away from the cities and light pollution to dark sky sites so we can see "what's up there".

Sounds like you'll fit in just fine 'round here.
Just post us some pix of what ya build... and you can get
more advise than you will ever need from these friendly folks.
Mind you... This stuff can be habit forming.

Hey Smitty,

Welcome to the forum. I think we have a couple other astronomers here...
tonyj and alffink.

Since you are a diyer, I think you'll have fun here too!

Mike...

Image to the play ground Scott. Getting Steve's manual is a great start.

Be sure to keep us in pictures cause we really have a thing for them. Especially our Madjack and The Aussie. 8)

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone. Actually Miriam, my first name is Steven. :)
And it's nice to know that there are other folks here that are into astronomy, at least I'm not the only one with their head in the stars, heh-heh!

On a somewhat related note, I see that there is a member's design for a StarTrek Shuttle TTT. . .

Welcome Smitty:
I see that you are in Georiga. There will be a gathering of teardrops at James Floyd State Park in Georiga on June the 8-10. If you are close come out and camp with us. You can see first hand a few TDs and talk to the people that built them. If you can't stay come out Saturday and hang out with us. You can go to the southeast section for info. Hope to see you there.
See Ya: Keith
