I HATE KODAK SOFTWARE!

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

OK I still hate Kodak software! So much so that It has been removed from my computer.

Do a google search on "convert .mov to mpeg" and you will get lots of results and free programs that will do the conversion to allow you more options on software for editing.

Looks like this is what I'm going to have to do. But I may also have to

.
having said that .mov is a quicktime extension, so if your camera makes quicktime movies probally the easiest way it to PAY APPLE $30 to upgrade to quicktime pro for PC so you can edit the movie or export it to another file format. You can get the quicktime player for free for your windows box so you can watch them, just won't be able to edit them with quicktime player

as always in life nothing is truly free...

I can attest to how great QT Pro is--and real easy to use. But I'm kind of confused about the original problem here in the first place:

I'm a Mac user, but depending on the file extension--.mov, wmp., etc.--when you double click it, yeah, it will launch a default application. But you can change the default.

Kodak doesn't "not let you use" anything else. Your system settings are doing that.

And the Kodak software messes with your settings. When you try to open files in Microsoft Picture It, with Kodak loaded, you'll find the option of opening pictures files from a camera is gone. Remove Kodak and lo and behold the option is back.

Windows media player with play most anything

That she will BUT windows media player won't let me edit a video.

This problem will have to be put on hold till the weekend. Anything with a computer really eats up time.

The whole reason I want to mess with my video option on the camera is that I'd like to put together a video montage of my husband while he is giving tours of the camper. I thought I'd surprise him.

I ain't giving in yet!
