The fan belt is in the pulley. It's a double pulley (for later mods). But your close. The Thermostat is also correct. None of the guesses above are close. It's external. I think I've said to much.

P.S. AlaskaJack is real close. The fan blade is on correctly.

It does look that way but it seems like it would have ripped itself apart.

BTW - how do you get any heat out of that thing with no heater hoses? Defrosters won't work for poop!!  :R

I think it could be to many bugs in the radiator code, shutting down the air flow. Jim G

I can tell, nobody peaked in my album. It's the fan. As you can see the fan is made to go counter clockwise. Therefore it was trying to push the air back through the radiator because the Ford 390 turns clockwise . That's wrong, it's suppose to suck it through the radiator. It was a new fan from Chief Auto for a 390 and because I threw my receipt away, they wouldn't exchange it for the proper one. Another lesson learned. Just to lazy to go across town to an old school parts house where every one behind the counter knows what you want without going to the computer.

This picture was taken right after I installed the motor and hood. Like I said earlier, it's got a new 4 core radiator and a custom fan shroud. I'm also running a 160deg. thermostat. Everything was & now is correct except for the fan, but it's now correct. So AlaskaJack, you were on the right track.

I wasn't sure if the old 390 turn CW, or CCW ........ you would have been better off if you had no Fan at all.... LOL , at least when you was moving you would have got some air through it ........ I had a street rod for a while with no fan, just an Elect, one that I could turn on when I was stopped, never had any problem with it gettin hot........ well , tell us, what made you think of the Fan ??? or maybe it was idleing and blowing bugs out through the Grill............... ;)

Sooo... Learn something every day! Me being a longtime GM/chevy fan I wouldn't know this stuff. But, I'm still confoosed?
If your 390 turns backwards; do ya hafta put it in reverse to go forward?

I've used many a Ford 9" rear end and they turn the same way sa Chevys...
So do those Ford trannies have an extra gear or somethig that changes the rotation at the tailshaft?

Can't believe I been buildin hotrods for 50 years and I never thought about this chit before??? :o
