PURCHASE NO GAS ON MAY 15, 2007

In Ohio if we would get rid of Fed. and state tax on gas it would be like $1.60 a gallon. Their some thing like $1.40-$1.55 in tax now. Then their was a blurp in the paper about adding another $.50 a gallon for road improvement tax. Just keep piling on the taxes.

I have a toyota pickup that is used to pull the tear but my current car is a Suzuki Swift that gets 40 city 50 highway, about the same as my bike. I paid $800 for the car a year ago. At 6'2" and 250 lbs I find the little car comfortable and fun to drive.

I've been riding bikes (motorcycles) all my life, I'm 53. Probably have close to 400,000 miles on bikes without being hurt in an accident. During the 20 years I lived in California I put under 500 miles a year on my car all the while commuting 50 miles per day year round on the bike. Then I moved to Bend Oregon where 5 months out of the year the roads are covered with ice and snow. The old Honda cx500 is still my main ride in the summer but winter requires a car.

Hey Grani,
Thanks for the comment. I use synthetic in everything I own and have saved quite a few bucks. Racing was the selling point for me. Engines that produce over 700 HP ran without fail and saved us thousands. Oh here's a secret - NASCAR teams actually do use synthetic oil.

Like your wife's sister - I too live in Gaithersburg. It was announced that Montogmery County - where Gaithersburg is located - has the 10 worst commute in the nation - average over 40 minutes a day. I leave at 4am in the morning so I can get to my work in a reasonable amount of time.

If I was to take public transport my commute would be around 2 hours one way. By the time you get to the bus - and transfer, etc. A little too much for me. Driving is more direct.

So no gas on the 15th will work for me.

I just woke up! Just who instigated a gas boycott TWO days after Mothers Day. Helloooooooo! I'm beginning to think the oil company's think these things up to keep us from having a real boycott, that really hurts them.

I'll be doing a 850 mile drive to Lexington, KY, mon/tue/wed.. Have to fill up Monday night, and drive till I'm on empty tues, camp at a gas station tuesday night so I can fill up again wed a.m.... gonna be tough.

I didn't fill up on the 15th and waited until the 16th to put my $140 worth into my truck...not sure how that hurt the oil companies.

Now if everyone would just stop buying from one brand for a week or two....say Citco....wouldn't that have a deeper impact?

I don't buy from CITCO now for reasons that everyone should know. But, I agree that it would do more good for the cause if every one would just boycott a brand for at least a week. Sure it may hurt the guy who is just trying to make a living but that's the way it goes. I just don't understand how the oil companies say they are rising the cost because of problems and then show a BIG profit at the end of the year. Nothing wrong with profit, but lets not get ridiculous. Now they are also saying that if the demand goes down so will the cost of fuel. Seems to me that they are running out of excuses.

Gas prices are driven by supply and demand. The refinery problems limited supply and the demand went on unabated. The price had to go up. When supply exceeds demand (if that will ever happen again), the price has to come down.

Do the math. The population of the US is approximately 302 million. If ALL of Exxon's $3.9 billion in profits were divvied up amongst us, we'd each get about twelve bucks. And then of course, Exxon would be out of business, and the price of gas would go even higher.

What if they artifically decrease the supply by having "refinery problems". Enron made artificial power shortages which increased their bottom line.

Say for example: they have an explosion at a refinery and at the same time another comes online, the price will always increase because of the one that had the explosion. They won't say that that it due to the cost of repairing the broken one, they just say that they lost capacity even though it is at a similar level.

Ever since Enron, the SEC and other watchdogs closely monitor corporate activities. I'm not saying that big oil is doing that, but it just seems fishy to me.

I think the world oil prices have caught up to America. Low prices is not an entitlement. As Americans , we will have to adjust. I have as of several years ago. The TD plans are a step in that direction. Riding a moto bike as my main transportation in the warm seasons, looking at places closer to home to vacation.
I used to think of Colorado/Florida as a great week long trip. Now I look to Wisconsin which is several hours away instead. And surprise!!!!!!!! Wisconsin is a great state for camping!!!!! Better then the 2 others...
I still cannot understand as to why people buy those huge SUV's when they drive in town and do not need the additional power.
As a ex-contractor who is currently helping build several McMansions for my friends I am ashamed of the size of these houses for just 2 people.....

Conservation of energy is the key, not sending the oil companies a message is what is going to drive down your personal energy/transportation costs.

My daughter and I talk about this on a frequent basis. She is living in Denmark and travels to all corners of the world on a regular basis. She is surprised at how much energy she wasted when she was growing up.


But.....TD's are a step in the right direction.

From what the 7-11 manager (Ihmdad) told me way back, they stopped selling Citgo when the nut first made his rant. And that they just haven't changed the signs and pumps yet.

Does anyone know if this is true for sure?

By me, except for RaceTrac (spelling?) which are few and far between, Citgo has always been the cheapest.
