Dallas Tx Camping question

Postby Lynn Coleman » Sun Jun 03, 2007 12:29 am

Hi all,

I have a conference in Dallas this fall and I'm wondering what kind of camp areas there are in that area. I've been on google searching but to no avail, can anyone help?

Hi Miriam,
Thanks. I've scanned half the posts, do you know if that park has electric hook ups?

There's more info about Cedar Hill here, and my son has camped there during Renaissance Faire for three years running, and he loved it.

Ah, thanks. That had the information I needed. The park is 30 miles from the conference but very doable imho.

Thanks all.

Lynn,

Cedar Hill has everything you would need and it's close to I20 which will get you anywhere you need to go in the Metroplex. Where is you conference going to be held?

Lewisville Lake has a nice camp area in Lake Dallas Texas. I have camped ther 5 or 6 times it has showers, I am not sure about hook ups though.

Lynn,

Check out the one jplock posted it might be a little closer for you. I've never been there but if he suggested it, it has to be good. You might have less traffic to fight from Lewisville. In any case let us know where you'll be and we'll come out to see you.

This is a nice campground. Just west of the airport. We have stayed there,
Traffic in Dallas is real bad. Traffic from Lewisville or Cedar Hill to the Galleria will be a bear.

Lynn, 14901 NORTH Dallas Parkway??

That's in Addison, right?

IF that's where the conference is, and you want to stay in Grapevine, Belt LIne Road is nearly a straight shot.

I honestly don't know. I don't know the area well enough. I'm hoping all you Texans can help me make the right decision.

The conference is Thursday evening, Friday all day and evening, Sat same as Friday and Sunday 'til lunch.

So is Grapevine a better choice?

Hi Lynn,

Hickory Creek campground is right off of I-35 (north of Dallas) on Lake Lewisville. I like it because most of the electrical/water sites are right on the Lake or provide a good view of the lake. They are on Reserve America.

My other absolute favorite is Lake Ray Roberts - Dubois Branch. They are on Reserve America, but you can't reserve a specific site. They just garantee that you will have a site.

If you need any more specifics, PM me.

Have fun!

I think travel wise the Lewisville and Grapevine campgrounds will be much easier. From the Cedar Creek campground you would have to drive through all of Dallas and lots of traffic. I haven't camped at any of them so I can't give recommendations.

I work about a mile from that hotel, and live up near Lake Lewisville.

None of those campgraounds will be "convenient" to your conference. You will be driving at least 30 minutes from any of them.

Cedar Hill is going to be a good hour or more in traffic.

Lewisville is closer, but you have to go around the south end of the lake to get to it, across 121, which is a construction mess right now.

Grapevine might not be too bad, but still 30 minutes or more.

The campground at Ray Roberts is quite nice, but there again, it's a good hour drive into Addison in traffic.

Addison is in the heart of North Dallas, so it's pretty far from any camping.

Oh -- there is a Wal-Mart SuperCenter about three miles from the Marriot. :D
