New Member with a question

Hi everyone. I just returned from a weeklong camping trip with my family at Wolf Creek Dam on Lake Cumberland. I had the opportunity to actually see a Teardrop up close for the first time and I'm hooked. I just have to build one. My question is leg room when sleeping in the trailer. I'm 6'8" and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or might have a solution.

hi tallguy you can build the cabin the size you need and the galley according to that any thing and be done you also build on 5x10 that will give you plenty of room and WELCOME to the forum!!!!!!!!!!

Take a look at the Generic Benroy Plans at the top of the page. These plans can be modified to accommodate any dimension. You may want it taller so you can have a bigger door for ease of getting in and out.

Welcome to the group. For you building is the answer, that way you can have what you want.
The other secret is planning.
Since you are tall, what length of bed would you like? Then figure it into the plan. Also you'll need to decide how much galley you want. Some do this by thinking what they really need. Some people draw chalk line or rope line on the ground to get and idea. Your feet go part way under the cabinets, but if you want a cooler or whatever on bottom cabinets, how much space do you need. Some make mock ups of sides in cardboard or whatever to get an idea of size.
It also depends on what size trailer you want, but you would probably need longer than 8', could go 9' or 10'.
I cut the profile of mine in the cheapest 1/4" I could find, so I could see what the profile looked like, sit in the door etc. That way if you need to make any changes, you're doing it before you start on the wood.
Good to look at lots of pictures of galleys, etc. to give you ideas too.

I'm ONLY 6-2.. I have a queen size mattress... I suspect that might work for you.. a 5x10' tear is what I build, and have extra room for the dog bed at the end of the mattress.... works out fine.

If needed, you can pull the mattress down a bit and stick a pillow in the space where your head is and make it work.

...one of the joys of building these little campers is...there are no hard and fast rules...it's yours...your building it, so as long as it is safe, the rest is upto you....oh yeah...WELCOME.....

you couldnt believe how many hours the wife and i sat on the floor with paper on the wall drawing to us sitting laying down seeing where we could put storage without hitting our heads on it it was crazy

Welcome Tallguy! I am 6'5" and 290. I built a 5'x9' and sleep like a baby...I wake up in the middle of the night crying...but I have stopped wetting the bed. I used the 5x8 generic benroy plans and just added a 6" to the cabin area and 6" to the galley.

I will definitely add pictures...once I'm going that is! I appreciate, so very much, the responses that I have recieved so far. I can't wait to get going. I've looked at these trailers online before but never could convince my wife (who's 5'0"). It wasn't until we saw that trailer at Wolf Creek that I was able to convince her. So the planning begins....

Did you get the name of the owner of the trailer?
That I know of, there are only about 3 or 4 teardrops in Kentucky. Most of us are kayakers but I'm a big fan of flyfishing as well.

I'd love to take a look at your TD sometime. I've been hitting the TurboCAD pretty hard lately. My design is coming along pretty well. Obviously, as with any project, thie design will perpetually change! I'm glad that there's someone nearby to help guide me through this process. Thanks for getting in touch.

I used the benroy plans and added 12" on the front making it round instead of flat, so the trailer is 9'. Plenty of room.
