Make subject line meaningful

Postby Arne » Wed Jun 06, 2007 8:59 am

I think I've written about this before, and expect to get some heat about it, but:

subjects like "what do you think about this" do not tell us (ME) anything. With new posts getting up to 40-50/day, I'd just like to suggest that we try to convey what the subject is, like:

Windows, need sources

Frame, need help with construction

Camping places in Oregon

etc... I skip a lot of notes because the subject is too generic and I have no idea what is being discussed......

I'm off to lake george for 3 days.... you can start throwing stones now, I'll catch them when I get back.../g/

:applause: :applause: :applause:
If I'm starting a new topic, especially if I have a question, I want the subject line to say at a glance what I need. I figure that way I'm more likely to get a good answer.
There are days when I don't have too much time, I'm looking at subject lines to see what gets my attention.
Good advice, Arne.

And 160 highjacks

Too bad there is no way to add a "highjack"symbol in the heading when that happens.

I agree. Like the one that says "Folding Dinghy", I was afraid to open that one.

I've always found that ambiguity and confusion are what make this country and site great.

So why change that now?

:? Serious? No wonder I have to stay up so late. 8)

There are times I agree with Ira. Some of the Subject lines are great. If it is technical help I like the line to be as specific as possible. I still read them all but switch gears faster if specific.

Ira -

Not sure about the ambiguity - you can actually take that two ways - but I do indeed have mixed feelings about ambivalence. And as far as apathy goes . . . who cares?

Is this the hijacking thread? it was hard to tell the "Subject Line" doesn't seem to have anything to do with whats being discussed here. It would have saved me alot of time if the Subject line explained what was happening in the thread. I guess I could have saved more time by not typing this stoopid post.
