Gorilla glue verses Titebond III

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby surveytech » Sun Jun 03, 2007 7:37 pm

clean up with titebond is much easier........rag with water.

Gorilla glue requires rag with solvent.

rather work with water clean up.

i used a lot of Gorilla glue on my build. i really like it and seemed to work pretty good. but if you get it on your hands, fingers. you will be weeks getting it off. i tend to get pretty messy with the stuff and had it all over me. took forever to get it all off.

Gorilla Glue

Postby Big DE » Mon Jun 04, 2007 9:56 am

I am just about ready to cover my tear with aluminum. My question is since I have a 1"x 1" square tube frame will Gorilla Glue do the trick? I do plan on using stainless steel screws on the trim around the edges.
Thanks for all your help

I'm a TBII or III guy... so far nothing I've built has fallen apart and plenty of my "creations" are outside 24/7 (deck furniture)....

Tell me more about the epoxy. Of course I've used the small tube variety in quick-set and regular flavor and am never without JB Weld to get through the day, but what kind of epoxy do you use for your builds? Who is a good supplier for the quantities that we're talking about for building a teardrop/small trailer? I could use some input here. Thanks all.

Thanks MJ. I spent about an hour on their website this morning. Good stuff. Know I better understand Steve Wolverton's post about receiving his materials order from Raka. Thanks for tying it together.

Where quantity was important, Paul and I used Liquid Nails. Where quality was a factor we used Gorilla glue. and when we were glueing woods together we used wood glue. Now you have to realize we are brand spanking new at this, but that's what we did ... not to mention many many clamps and/or screws to hold thing in place...we call it "Screw and Glue-ing" hahahahahahaha...

Oh Im sorry. We are harmless, I promise!!! 8)

I don't think there is much question about which glue is best. The only queston is which glue is right for the proper application. On my build I used liquid nails construction adhesive and deck screws to attach the framing to the FRP exterior wall panels. I used tite bond II and pocket screws on cabinet framing, titebond II and brads in hidden locations for the oak plywood to wall framing and gorilla glue and pocket screws for roof spar to FRP connection. I wasn't shy with the deck screws on any location where they weren't exposed or could be seen.

I hope I never find out but if it were a case of small car vs my tear that my tear would survive in repairable form.

I hope this isn't a hi-jack, but why does Gorilla glue bubble up so much! Everytime I have used it, it forms a pouch.

Todah, that is simply the nature of the beast...when I use it, about 15 min after the pieces are clamped together and the glue has started to foam, I take a rag, wet with mineral spirits and wipe the foam off...much easier to clean up that way.......

p.s. Hey Mark, I agree that there is no "best" adhesive...we use 'em all aorund the shop...it just depends on the application...and as I always say...read/follow/understand the manufacturers directions and if in any doubt...testtesttesttest.......

Having read the different opinions and test on the glues here, we decided to go with Titebond III for most areas and Liquid Nails for the roof skin.

Sounds like the best combination.
