(The Puffin) New Tiny Trailer

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

steve wolverton wrote:That is something that I need to add. I'm not sure the best route to do it though. The Puffin uses 110v, and I don't want to run a transformer, so I'm going to have to add a small exhaust fan. I'm guessing I'll just use a regular house bathroom exhaust, but that really seems overkill for a 30" x 36" closet. It would keep it dry in there though. :) Right now I have two 5" vents. I have one at the top of the bathroom and one at the bottom. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

Steve,

It's a little expensive (alright...maybe a lot expensive depending on budget) but you could install a Nicro Solar Vent as used on boats for your shower area. That doesn't require any power from the trailer and can go 24/7/365 and they work really well.

Greg M & lblampman - Thanks guys. Both good suggestions.

I think I'll go with this one:

It's only $12.88 at Lowes. I have one switch that's free in the camper, so I'll use it to turn on the bathroom light and exhaust fan.

Ooh, found this last night, and it's $20.

I figure I can work on the settee tomorrow while I'm waiting for my second coat of epoxy to dry on the exterior.

I need to purchase some more tile and fabric. Plenty of projects.

Ok, today I will have a U-shaped settee. :D

I'm about to run to the store to get some tile do the floor under the bed where I just cut out the 2x3 table. The U-shaped bench now measures 24" wide with a 12" bench around the back of the camper.

I also need to pick up some more fabric to sew up some sheets for the new bedding. WooHoo!

You can also see the butt blocks that join the camper sides in this picture with the foam bedding removed.

Going to need some band aids man.... that is looking pretty sharp. :D Hey let me know sometime how you are thinking of waterproofing your shower. I know you are using epoxy, but I need more details and photos.

Thanks dude!

As for the shower, I have a lot of fiberglass cloth left over, so I'm going to build a shower pan with the cloth. It will probably be 4 or 5 inches tall, and the walls will be covered with a few layers of epoxy to seal the wood. I will use a small pvc pipe as a drain to a 5 gallon holding tank. I'm planning to use a small shower curtain that will be drawn to cover the shower door. I'll take a lot of pictures as they really seem to help more than my descriptions.

I got back from the store with all the stuff I need to finish this project. I got the tile down and the benches supported now.

Image

The heavy power cable for the camper now runs at the back of the bench, and I'll have it clamped to the bench support.

I'm about to cut the foam, and then I'm going to sew the new covers for it.

I also picked up some more texture so I can texture my speaker boxes (you can see one to the right of the raccoon), and I need to paint the bottom of the shelf (where the raccoon is sitting) black too. Now that I have mirrors all over that curve in the back, you can see inside the shelf.

The front of the benches will not be sealed off, but they'll be covered in the same material that I sewed my curtains from. I'm using black cotton canvas ($4.44 per yard Walmart) to do that. This will allow easy access under the bench, clean up the look, and it will also keep things light.

I'm taking a break with a pool buddy, but I'll be finishing it tonight. The sewing is what's going to take the most time. The nice thing about this project is I'm sitting in the camper with the AC running so it's nice and cool.

I think I'm catching the way you are drifting on this shower deal. Are you going to set a five gallon deal on the ground under the pvc pipe. The pipe going into the opening of the jug? That would be cool, cause you can ommit the 5 gallon tank if the environment is ok with a little biodegradable soapy water.

Sreve are you going to swing the table up like I did the WW or use a pedistal. The swing up works good on ours and you don't have to mess with putting the pedestal under it.

Hi Gary, I hope you guys are doing well.

I'm going to use a pedestal. I can pivot the table to allow the person on the far side to get onto their bench easier, but the main reason I want to have it on the pedestal is so I can take it outside and use the table out there as well by hooking it onto the aluminum table support.

I'm still crankin' away. I want to finish this tonight as I'm wanting to start on the shower tomorrow.

The foam has been cut, the black skirting is on, and now I'm about to sew the cover for the foam.

This part is gonna suck. :(

I took another break to watch the final episode of the Sopranos. Hmm, not sure I should have stopped for that...

Well I'm done! All I have to do now is cover the square cushion and install the pedestal for the table (which I'm ordering tonight) and I'll be in business. I have a 2x2 that I will use as the edging to support the table when it's in the bed position that I'll install after I build it. The hard part is over.

I'll probably start on the shower tomorrow.

I really like the dimmer on my lights. It gives the camper a warm glow. It also makes it much easier to read at night so the paper isn't blinding white. The first pic is with the flash on, the second pic is much more like what the interior looks like.

I only have 2 40watt lights in the camper and it's plenty of light. I usually get by just using the one over the bed. I have 4 - 48" mirrors in the camper so that really bounces the light around.
