Polyurethane on both inside roof layer and outside layer????

Do you guys put polyurethane or something on the sides of the plywood roof (interior cabin and Exterior) that is facing the spars where the foam board insulation goes for moisture protection?...... On one or on both pieces of plywood?....... Do you leave the very out side edge of the plywood bare so the glue bonds better?

Hi Jason,

I can answer part of your question. I did not insulate as my roof is 1/4 thick but the ouside has been spar urethaned and the inside is primed and painted. I'm sure someone else who has insulted will post soon.

But the second part I can add that you do want to keep the wood bare that will be glued. I learned early on in my build that glue would stick to a part of something I stained.....but not to anything I spar urethaned( without a hefty sanding!)

For the "real" roof, I didn't do anything on the side facing/touching/glued to the spars--only the other side, the actuale xposed roof.

Also, I spar varnished AFTER it was on. If you go nuts with spar and thane before you install, the stuff might not bend too good.

As far as the cabin ceiling goes…and I think that's the verbage you're looking for to explain "that" piece of ply in the cabin, anything you do there is more or less for decorative purposes only.

And yeah--I insulated.

Jason, not that it is needed but after installing the ceiling and before insulating, we sprayed the top of the ceiling with urethane...since we prefinished virtually every piece before installation, we used Gorilla Glue on those places that were already finished...worked wonderfully well for us...be sure to read and follow instructions for GG before using if you are not familiar with it...a urethane based constuction adhesive would work as well...
