Are you eating while typing on your computer???

Postby caseydog » Thu Jun 14, 2007 9:25 am

I just heard on NPR that the average computer keyboard carries more bacteria than the average toilet seat.

But, have no fear -- just put the old keyboard/petri dish in the dishwasher!

So, besides the dishwasher, what's the answer? Lysol spray? :?

Should you disinfect your keyboards and with what~

Should you disinfect your computer keyboard & mouse?
Will this harm them?

http://tinyurl.com/yq6qwd

The team used three products containing quaternary ammonium
compounds: Clorox wipes, CaviWipes and Sani-Cloths. All worked well,
removing 95 to 100 percent of bacteria. So did three other products, plain
old 70 percent isopropyl alcohol; Vesthene, a different germicide; and a
chlorine product containing 80 parts of chlorine per million. ``These are all
inexpensive, they're just pennies per wipe," said Rutala. All the products
can also kill viruses, he said. And even sterile water was able to remove,
though not inactivate, keyboard bacteria.

I use the Clorox Disinfecting wipes.
Use the products with No bleach in them~

I also use Germ-X on my hands often~
I carry a small bottle to use if I am on another persons computer keyboard.

How did you know I was eating??????

I try not to eat over the keyboard....I started that after I dropped a chocolate cup cake covered in icing upside down on the keyboard.
My dog Kia helped clean it up. A few Q-tips helped too.

I don't eat over the keyboard, but I do smoke a pipe sometimes while on the computer, so the keyboard has some vanilla pipe tobacco in it. If it ever catches fire, at least it will smell good!

I use these. I buy a couple tubs at a time and keep them by my desk. On my days off my assistants use my desk so I wipe the mouse, keyboard, phone and radio when I get in.

An oldy but still funny.....and I checked, my mouse has no balls!

Mouse Balls Available as FRU (Field Replacement Unit)

Mouse balls are now available as FRU. Therefore, if a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop-off method. Domestic balls are replaced using the twist-off method. Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge. Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately.

It is recommended that each replacer have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction, and that any customer missing his balls should suspect local personnel of removing these necessary items.

To re-order, specify one of the following:

P/N 33F8462 - Domestic Mouse Balls
P/N 33F8461 - Foreign Mouse Balls

Maybe I'll stick my laptop in the dishwasher ,the whole thing is nasty. I take my laptop into labs for work, so I'm sure it has tons of nice chemicals and germs all over it...... I just try to wash my hands a lot.
I'd rather not think about it.
I was just eating some Taco Bell (E.coli and all) while using my keyboard this evening. :?
I think I would only try the dishwasher approach if I had an old keyboard I didn't need.

How many emoticons can I fit?
