(The Puffin) New Tiny Trailer

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Disco ball and magic finger bed are on back-order. I guess the demand is too high?

Ok, so I drug my camper out and I'm about to wash 50 pounds of dust off of it and paint the bottom black.

I've already started sanding the top, but haven't finished. I just lack the rear part on the port back window area.

Image
So the top (white) area will be smooth/glossy, and the bottom will be textured black. I think I may coat the bottom part in Herculiner this winter to give it a nice rubbery coating. I saw some pics of the plywood that has the plastic coating on it that the Finnish builder is using (Heikke sp?) and really liked the round dot diamond plate looking stuff. If I could only find that in fiberglass.

Image
This picture shows how my line ties in on the back/sides of the camper. I think I'm really going to like it. I offset it on the back to give it that "Oh, he's so cool he doesn't have to conform to centering things" on the rear of the camper. I'm also going to remove the trike rack. I'll just have to haul it in the SUV, or sell it. Anyone want to make an offer? No offer is too low. ;)

I also picked up the electrical goodies (fan, switches, GFCI) for the bathroom/shower setup. I'll start on that tonight.

I've also been reading up on the FRP that some have used on the top of the campers. I'm thinking about doing it as my camper lives inside a garage. I can't afford Filon. :(

Bottom is painted. WooHoo!

Oh, and that little pole in the picture is my settee dining pole. It came in while I was painting.

I guess I have another project tonight.

Dining table installed. That was a 5 minute job. I had a friend drop by with a piece of pizza and drinks, so we got to try out the new settee.

Image

Home Depot was out of the beige tile that I did my floor/counter with and I'm either going to have to wait for more to come in, or use black tile. I think the black trimmed in alumium would make for a sharp looking table. I also got the speaker boxes epoxied into place last night (that's the white stuff holding them to the wall) but haven't touched up the paint yet.

Mobile bachelor pad.

Off to install the bathroom/shower vent...

Steve,

Your trailer width is match very well to your tow vehicle. How wide are they?

My SUV measures 6'8" wide from side mirror to side mirror. The camper is 6'1" wide. It works out very well. I wish I could say that I planned it that way, but it was a happy accident. I'm glad I didn't have to add tow mirrors to be able to see around it.

I think that paint job will be fairly striking. Can't wait to see the red on. So remind me, you are sanding the entire white surface to remove the texture?

The white was hard to clean with the texture. It will be much easier to wipe down and keep shiny when it's smooth. It strange because originally the outside was textured and the inside was smooth, I've now gone 180 degrees. :?

I just installed the exhaust fan in the bathroom.

Image
I set the camera close to the floor and took the picture. I'm going to build a foam ceiling and glass it in to hide the guts.

Image
Proof that it works! I can feel it pulling the air from the little vent hole at the bottom of the bathroom. Neat.

This should keep it nice and dry after a shower.

I would say that was a good days work. I think my wife might even camp if I had a trailer like that.

your camper is 6'1 wide and you are 6'3 how is that sleeping with the legs bent, id have to think after a while it would be cramped, i do mine i think i may have to go lengthwise with the main bed

Jeeper92 - The outside of the camper is 6'1" and the inside bed area measures 4' x 6'. I'm 6'1" tall. If I'm camping alone then I sleep on the bed diagonally. If I'm camping with a friend, then I sleep curled up behind her - it's not so bad. ;)

mikeschn - It sure is. Sometimes it's hard to know what I want until I've slept in the camper a few times. It's slowly evolving, but I'm really happy with the design. Ideas of how to make it better or more convenient pop into my head all the time, only about 10% of them actually come to fruition.

bledsoe3 - I have a lot of extra stuff in the camper that I wouldn't have for solo camping. All of this extra foo-foo stuff makes camping more enjoyable for people that usually don't do a lot of camping.

Steve,

You're a riot. I look forward to your updates every day.

I hope you keep this thread going long after you've got Puffin done and are onto Puffin II or whatever comes next.

Thanks. :applause:
