recovering from prostate operation

For those who say my subject earlier asking if anyone had had it removed.

I had mine completely removed on 5/31 and had my cathider out after only a week by the end of the second week I was walking 8 blocks and working in the yard. on 6/14 I returned to work with a limit of lifting no more then 10 lbs.

I have some problems but am getting around them thank you for your prayers and conserns.
I should have stayed out longer and flown to the National event. wall I can dream can't I.

Glad to hear you are moving around.

I can sympathize with the restriction routine. I remember being told nothing heavier than a telephone book, then ten pounds, then up to ten blocks before you can attempt stairs.

The easiest I ever had was no bending your head below your waist. Geez, the 120 pounds I put on with dreaded steroids made suire I could not possibly get my head below my waist...I have not seen below my waist since those the brain tumor.

Happy to hear you are recovering in good speed. It will be an easy time to lounge around the house and forget to get in the best shape of your life. I bet flying kites is exercise if you do it right.

Aproxamently 7 months later....
Doing just fine .... PSA zero.... back to waring normal clothing and gained almost full control of my blader. If I drink Coke a Cola I go more often but all in all I am back to nomal.

I have seval frends who are unsure of which directon to go.
this is what I found out.
1. Freezing for now covers to much area and it grows back
2. Icatopes put in where the cancer is, might have been a better route
3. Robot removel is some places might work but in many cities
they are still leaning how to do it
and you are who they are learning it on but in large cities and some practaces they are doing them one after another and seemingly doing good jobs
4. Wait and be tested until it is much worse. But I do not like that type of testing every year or 6 months.
I will need to have my PSA checked for sometime to come.
but I work out at the Gym now and can now lift without danger.
the Stiches still itch at times
But I do feel real good.

Ron, I am glad to hear you have recovered so well. Someday they will perhaps find a better way for most cancers...........at least we can hope.

Mike does his test every year because his father waited too long and didn't catch it in time.

I am very happy to hear your outcome, Ron.

My dad wasn't so lucky. He had his PSA checked every year. The only reason he knew he had a problem, was one day he couldn't urinate. He called the doctor and they thought he had bad BPH or a swollen infected prostate. He went immediately to the emergency room and they opened him up and cathiterized him. And then they rechecked his PSA and it had gone through the roof. They scheduled him for surgery in a week, but when they opened him up, they closed him and said it had already spread beyond his prostate. It's not prostate cancer that kills you. It's the spread to bones, liver and lungs that kill you. It took 5 years , but that's what happened, he died of bone and lung cancer. I might add, it's not a good way to die.

So, after reading your outcome, I think you took the right course of action and I think you are smart for getting it out when you did. His doctor told us that 90-100% of men will get it if they live long enough and something else doesn't kill you first. So I'm a big advocate of annual PSA tests. And if you feel like something ain't right, get to the doctor to have it checked, because I know men tend to put off going to the doctor, until they really feel like they can't go on, and this is nothing to kid around with.

I hope and pray that you see continued improvement. And just remember, no matter what you have to go through, you are alive and able to go through it. That is what's important.
