Actually, no I have not done such a nice job of fully documenting my build like Steve has, his camper is what inspired me to build mine, but I needed a little more sleeping room inside since it is the wife, myself and our daughter(I have a full mattress plus the additonal bench that is 5ft long accroos the front). The camper is ~10ft long at the longest points and 77" wide. Im in the process of epoxying the outside, taking a few pointers from Steve here and learning the rest as I go. Then I will follow up with textured exterior paint..

Hope I havent thread crapped too much..

Now back to our regular scheduled "Steve's Puffin..."

I've got a subwoofer box for two 12" speakers that you can have if you want it.

You went 77" wide???? How were you able to do that on a HF trailer?

Did you look at his build photos in his album? He shows the wooden floor frame on the trailer there for reference.

Zorkman,

I looked for a different place to post this but Steve's thread is the only place you've posted so far.

NICE WORK! :applause: That's a great looking Widget and I love the color scheme.

Now...back to Steve...

Love the rope lights! And the new look on the exterior with its fancy schmancy trim! 8)

You're doing it right - it's just tedious. It sucks, really sucks. I was so frustrated from sanding I finally just called it good enough and painted it. It gets a little better each time, but I still have quite a few imperfections. It's a 10 foot paintjob - looks great from 10 feet away. :D

My Great Grandmother used to say "Art is to be looked at, not smelled of."

You could apply this to TD/TTT as well. :-)

Jeeper92 - I'm going to be working on the bathroom all next week, I'll put photos online as I go. As for the lights, I wanted something that was bright enough to illuminate the camper, but not as intense as a bulb. Yes, it does have a porn/pimp feel to it. A girlfriend asked if there was a way to turn the lights off so that people would think we were somewhat normal. :D

Tear Les - I'm not sure how 'fancy schmancy' the trim is, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to write fancy schmancy. ;)

Gerald_G - I would agree with your Great Grandmother. That's a helluva project you've got going there! Nice work. :o

Ok, let's break it down this way. My camper weighs 800 pounds (796) right now. I have it supported on (5) 2x4's.

Now the total weight of the camper is 800, but the trailer weighs 200 pounds, so the actual weight sitting on the 2x4's is 600 pounds. The 2x4's are 6' long, so I have 600 pounds being divided onto (5) 2x4's which equals 120 pounds that each 2x4 is supporting. So 120 pounds being supported by each 2x4.

So each 1 foot of 2x4 is actually supporting 20 pounds. (It's actually a helluva lot less than that as there is 1/2" plywood that is also spreading out the weight distribution, trailer, etc.) For giggles, nail a 2x4 onto a picnic table and place 1' over the edge. Place a 20 pound weight on the end of that 2x4. Do you think it will support it? ;)

So, the short answer is no - you will not have any problems with the weight. Take everyones opinion on this board with a grain of salt - including mine.

As for me looking over your plans, I'd be happy to look at them, but I can't offer anything but my opinion. I'm not a carpenter, engineer, or anything like that so again - take my opinions with a grain of salt. :)

Building the modified puffin on the HF trailer is my goal. Using Steve's 2x4's to support a six ft wide TT works for me too. However, I did want to add extra length in order to get at least a 54" wide bed (which also would serve as a table/setee combo). To do this, I will probably replace the 2 x 4's at each end with 2x10's, resting the first 3.5" of the 2x10's where the 2x4's would normally rest. I would also clip each 2x4 and 2x10 to allow for a 2x2 to be screwed to the ends down each side to tie them together. This would give me an extra 11.5 inches total to the length. As Steve pointed out, the plywood floor also spreads the weight so should not be a problem. Actually, I could get by with a bit less extra length, but not much.

Getting closer. My table is too white now, so I'm going to paint a red stripe on the edge. I'm also going to place a red/black stripe on my awning to tie it all in.

I think it needs a red and black checker board on it. It would match the paint scheme and provide hours of simple entertainment too
