Thanks I think, we have been in the 110's here in Phoenix which isn't all that bad but next week they are saying the humidity is going to go up. So I decided to go back up to Lake Hawley where it's 8500' elevation on July 20th thru 22nd and everyone is invited to join us if you like.

Thanks for the wishes. We did our Silly Summer Solstice Celebration and Ice Cream Social It is a park event that we do each year with games and ice cream, it culminates with a drumming/noise making to keep the sun up. about 70 people this year. Very fun. we only get 14 and a half hours of sunlight here on the 21st. but on the 22nd you better plan your day well because it is one second shorter!

Oh man, looks like the Finns are burning down a Teepee....Yikes!!!
Very cool looking scenery, I'd say "wish I was there" but, your Winters are colder than ours - maybe one day - eh?

Thank you Heikki,
I wish I was there! What fun, but the mythology for young girls :? I guess all that frolicking nakie would certainly cause a bunch of trouble in a big town.

There are various magical tasks and tricks for young girls (and boys) to perform on Midsummer Eve in order to know whether they would soon be married or to get a glimpse of their future spouse:

* Flower bouquet A girl picks seven or nine different species of wild flowers and places them under her pillow for the night. While sleeping, the face or the name of her future husband will be revealed for her in a dream.
* If a girl picks the nine flowers in nine different meadows, she will meet her future husband on Midsummer Eve.
* A girl eats salty food, usually salted fish, before going to bed. In her sleep she gets thirsty, and he who brings her water in her dream will be her future husband.
* If a girl rolls around naked on a dewy field, she will surely meet her fiancé during the passing year.Meadow
* If a girl goes to stand at crossroads on midsummer night, she will meet her future husband.
* A girl goes up to a well to listen on midsummer night. If she hears a clinking of keys, it means she will become a mistress of a house. If she hears a crying of a baby, it means she will have a child.
* If a girl goes up to a well or a spring naked on midsummer night, she will see the face of her future husband briefly reflected in the water.
* A girl makes a wreath of fresh flowers and drops it in a flowing stream. If the current carries the wreath away, it means wedding for the girl, but if the wreath is caught somewhere along the way, it means death for her.
“Forgiveness means giving up all hope for a better past.â€

Heikki,

Have A Happy Midsummers Event!

Really nice pictures and the article shows the Finn's have some interesting traditions. But I'm not sure I could run naked 3 times around a field to see the devil? If that's what it takes to see the devil, then I may never see him. At my age, don't want to be naked outside, can't run anymore and the farmers around here would get upset that you scared their livestock.

Beautiful pics. I hope you enjoy your holiday.

By the way, your bar-b-que is on fire!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Greetings from Canada, our weekend was a fine mix of thunder and lighting, rain and sunshine, perfect for celebrating the beginning of summer. The landscape there looks very much like around here. Thanks for the photos.
