Central Texas Gathering, Inks Lake State Park, Nov 16-18th

Postby SteveH » Mon Jun 25, 2007 8:23 am

OK, the idea of a Central Texas gathering was proposed in another thread about Texas teardrops, and I decided to move the discussion to a new, more appropriate thread/location and see what you folks think. A couple of locations have been mentioned and they are Lake Summerville State Park, and Inks Lake State Park.

Is this something there would be some interest in? Let's here your thoughts, please.

Could it please be the 3rd weekend in November :worship: . Every year for the past 5 years, I attend a retreat on the 2nd Weekend of November, so the 34d weekend (Nov 16 &17) would work out better for me.

However, if the 2nd weekend works out better for the majority, so be it. :D

...just my two cents.

Hey, we did Lake Ray Roberts - DuBois branch this past December 2006. Let's keep that one going.

How about Lost Maples, Garner, or Inks? I'd like to try to keep this as central as we could.

I agree with Steve as there are bunches of gatherings closer to the DFW area thruout the year, and out of Steve's list, I would vote for Inks Lake. The thing to keep in mind with any state park is, we need to make reservations early. We are open on all of the dates proposed.

...I agree as well...I would like to see somethig in the cental Tx hill country(isn't that where Inks Lake is)...I live in the country and am not likely togoto the DFW area to camp...way to many night lights for me..........

I'm with MJ on the Dec date.

Inks or Somerville get my vote. I would prefer Inks and there shouldn't be too much going on that time of year. It's a pretty location. Somerville is larger and would probably be less problem to get into.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Yes, Jack. Inks lake State Park is on Inks Lake, which is on the Colorado River, between Lake LBJ and Lake Buchanan, and West of Burnet, TX.

I'm certainly open to any date that eveyone would like, but we need to keep in mind, the later in the year, the greater the chance of bad weather. Maybe we need a date pole?

Inks lake or near there sounds better to me. That is pretty country. Good driver's roads, too. There is some gooood BBQ around them parts, too, like Cooper's in Llano. Yum.

I know a few great routes from Dallas to the hill country. You don't have to mess with I-35 below Hillsboro, and you can enjoy the drive in the country.

Somerville is almost in Houston. Not nearly as pretty. I don't know any pleasant way to get there from Dallas.

I'd have to cast my vote for Inks over Somerville.
