Small Annoying Galley Wall Problem...

Dear friends..

Got the wall between the galley and living quarters/sleeping quarters up however I have an annoying situation ... small but annoying...

Has anyone else had the same tyope of situation?

The back cross beam where the hinge will sit is at an angle.. and....The wall I put up is about 5 or 5,5 inches below that across... so now there is that space and was wondering as to how to fix that so it is covered..if I come up with the wall more I,ll have trouble with the hatch ... If I go in with the wall more we,ll lose leg space... I knew I should of built a 10 foot ..tear instead,

Does one make a shelf there that is the same height or what can I do?

I think a small shelf there would be a perfect and simple solution. Kinda like a spice rack.

The only solution is to trash the whole TD and start over--or build that spice rack.

ohh yes... salt and pepper shelf or Finnish Water Supply Shelf..Can fit about 4 bottles up there.. ohh but laying sideways..

I had indicated I was going to try a hatch mounted shelf ( actually shelves between the hatch ribs.) These were going to self level just like the cars on a ferris wheel. You have just shown me the answer to the self leveling shelf and the galley lid supports they are about to become one and the same. If the shelves swing over this short wall and rest there they will fill the void and support the hatch lid. Your problem became my answer thanks a million.

UPDATE: Spent the morning of the 4th building my hatch ribs. After I had the hatch bones swinging I had to try to build my self leveling shelf.
I am proud to report it works ! I loaded it with can goods and snapped some pics closed , opening , and open , with the ol 35 mm. I'll post them as soon as they come out of the camera. Works slick

P.S. Is film and prossessing a " cost to build item " ???

Heikki, on ours, we used 2 pieces for that bulkhead...the upper one tied into and was part of the hinge spar(top of hinge spar is bevelled to accomodate hinge...it comes down to the counter top, which is set at 20"s above the floor...the bottom part runs up to the counter top piece and is off set to allow proper leg room(78"s) in the cabin.......

Hmmm I "Think" I Understand what you mean..That wall has not been fastened yet to the side walls so it can be changed ...whew..

Would you have a photo of what you are saying Madjack?

Here is the Original Way I was going to have it done.. Is this what you mean? That wall is resting on top of the counter? Am I close in understanding what you stated?

So do you think I should go back and refix that wall so part of it sits on or on the back end of the countertop?

Heikki, only you can decide that for your build...it appears it would add a couple or so inches to the back galley...at the expense of room in the upper portion of the cabin...one thing I do like about tying the bulkhead into the galley hinge spar is the rigidity it imparts to the whole thing.....

Yup I agree with that.. I shall bring it to the drawing board..

hey big H,
i would do the small shelf idea. i have the same situation on mine and that is what i did. go straigt back a few inches and then straight up. i put spices, hand towels, lighter, small odd and end things up there.

Heikki...most everyone solves that issue with a little shelf there...check the album pics on my last 3...works really well...and if you didn't have it, you'd have some wasted space in the galley. Doug
