Somebody lent me the DVD this weekend, and what a movie!!!

For those unfamiiar with it, it's about a nut who lived with the grizzlies for like 13 years until one day, one decided to eat him and a companion.

It's a fascinating look at a paranoid maniac going off the deep end who hated everyone but bears, but is there ANYONE familiar with this guy who disagrees with this assessment and can give it a different spin?

HIGHLY recommended DVD.

Halfway through the film, you're ROOTING for a bear to eat him.

Ira, I saw it on the discovery channel...I can't argue with his disgust with bureaucracy(SP?) but he was one sick puppy with some serious anti-social tendencies...I assume he got his wish...to be one with the Griz...........

Joseph, we're talking asshole-squared here. That's why I was so amazed by this whole thing, and maybe I was "getting something wrong" about the story.

You gotta see this DVD. I was amazed that the authorities gave him the permits--which I assume were necessary--to camp where he did.

We're not talking about a real ecologist or scientist, and he spoke to these bears (and foxes) like they were French Poodles.

did anyone ever consider that maybe it was because of the woman that he got munched?

i read the story, and saw bits and pieces of the film... i think the bears became comfortable with him because they knew his smell, behavior, appearance etc.

then a chicky poo came along, and the human/animal instinct of psycho boy was to do what any of us would probably do... you know they did the horizontal cha cha in the tent that night. well big ol' alpha grizzly wasn't going to have any competition in his territory, so he kicked grizzly/boyz ass. then the chick was screaming and being wierd and he munched her to.

TK I have read everything Geron has ever written here and he in no way meant it other than a joke. One that a lot of people tell and the way to be sure is he ducked.

You might be right about the girl causing it though. The horizontal cha cha may have left blood residue that triggered an attack.
