General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

What ever it takes to get to about 6' wide.

If you use a flexiride axle and 14" wheels, you can use a 54" wide chassis.

I really like the drawing, with the bathroom and cooler, what size beds are being used? So its 6 feet wide 10 feet long???????
I pick my trailer up in about 2 hours

Pod... Great floorplan , and the sink too ...!!! :) ... and see, such a neat drawing...

Using Pods floorplan ...figure the beds are 76" long (for me) the sink area would be nice at 36" and the shower at 36" will put the trailer about 12.5 ' long...certainly not too long ...
It's funny , the Big bugout is 6x12 and yet has none of the conveniences and space that this one would have ...it's just a great big TD...

...and now it's for sale ...

I tweaked design a little bit to get it into 12' of length. Then I tweaked the profile a bit to make it look more "teardropish".

Image

Opps, don't mind those vertical dimensions at the front... I have to re-attach them.

The rear two thirds of the trailer is teardropish, and the front third is all about convenience.

Imagine GPW's pencil drawing of the bathroom for that corner in the floorplan.

I made the hatch only come down to the counter, and the space underneath can be accessed from the outside via a small door, or an access door in the counter.

The front will have a storage box, though that is not shown on the drawing yet.

So will this design be good for 99% normal camping and 1% bugging out? What do you think?

Mike... I absolutely think you have a winner there! Best of both worlds...
A great "bug-out" trailer AND a darn neat teardrop camper too. You have enough "galley space" you could cook and eat inside when the weather is lousy... And you still have enough outside galley/storage under the hatch so you could use it like a normal rear galley when the weather is good and you so choose. Plus, the shower-potty means you are really self contained even in a wally-world parking lot. That setup is about as much as anyone could ask for... Cool Beans! :applause: :applause: :applause:

Mike - can the toilet be where you have it in that drawing? According to the plans, the toilet would be in the curve part of the bottom. There is no trailer there, that would be curve, unless I'm looking at it wrong. It would work that way if you got rid of the bottom curve and came straight down.

You could always add a small skirt below the frame to carry the curve through, like Les Lampman's new design.

I love small skirts! :o

Steve,

There is no curve on the lower front. It just looks that way.

Bruce,

Yes there is a strong resemblance to a Tab Clamshell. But the tab clamshell has no bathroom.

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll let it sit a couple days, and then look at it again with a fresh eye for further improvements.

Mike , that's super.... but I still think bunks would leave room for my Lazy Boy recliner... ..... Half the storage space with bunks , but that's why we have cargo nets by each bunk ... very practical ...

POD , when we evacuated, there was NO room in the Wal Mart parking lot... Just thousands of cars and the armed National Guard to keep them under control ...... Like a million people all going camping at the same time ..being self -sufficient really helps...

So if we are not going to Walmart, where are we going?

Mike...

P.S. Since the dropped floor doesn't work on a red trailer, I'm currently working on a split floor design, with a flexiride axle at 22 degrees up start angle.

Wal-Marts overfull, campgrounds booked up, motels, forget it..We have a list of friends across the South, from Houston to Atlanta...all have agreed to let us live in their driveway if we need to...Prior planning and good friends are the best plan .... and cheap too, except they'll all demand I cook for them ...Yes ,I am a cajun chef of some merit, an advantage when begging for space... spent the last evacuation cooking for large crowds ... they loved it and all have called at the beginning of this season requesting our presence and their favorite dishes... ;)

Do you really need a dropped floor??? why not just make it taller ...??? gonna' have to splice plywood anyway...
