Tongue box mostly finished

Postby tonyj » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:00 am

I just thought some of you might want to see some pictures from the Sunday service of "The Church of the Sacred Bluebonnet on the Hill in George West."

Apparently, this weekend while people were defending their religious beliefs and arguing about political tyranny, I was blissfully sweating away in my barn in George West, enjoying the intermittent cooler breezes while roving bands of drizzle showers thunderously pelted the roof of the barn. Oh, and I got to work on my trailer for the first time in a long time.

I've been trying to work on the tongue box off and on for months and finally made real headway. I got everything (well, most everything) dry fitted. Next I'll tear it all apart and seal it with Sikaflex and reinstall it. Here are the pics:

Holy cow! I haven't finished it yet and it's already full of crap!

Took me almost as long to build the tongue box as it did the rest of the trailer. But after completing the task, I put Jake in the trailer, opened a cold one, turned on the radio and felt the first genuine moment of relaxation I have felt in a long while. It occurred to me that sort of thing happens every time I get inside of it and start problem solving the next phase of this little project.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

:scratchthinking: Is that a fake plant in there to the right under the Water hose? How ironic. ;)

Thanks, guys.

Miriam I'm ready to give it a rest, but more to do still.

Doug or should I say, "Pavlov's Dog"? You must have programmed yourself to sleep when you climb inside. Not a bad thing to do.

MJ I am so stinkin' tired of bending aluminum around curves. I only did a door on one side 'cause I knew that having to bend eight more radii would most certainly make me to start discussing religion or politics on this forum. I don't want to be that crazy!

MK Mushrooms, perhaps? It is pretty dark in there! (Actually, it is the pads and drawstring to a camp chair, but I had to laugh when I looked at the picture again, cause it does look organic, or mutant!)

Knutson Copy away, if you dare. Nothing original in my design. At the rate you are going, you will be finished before I even have a chance to start fixin' mistakes.

Bledsoe Like MJ, I am a firm believer in dry fitting everthing. Since I work without a net, no drawn plans, I often have to build in 3D what my mind has conceived in 2D. Like an M.C. Escher drawing, it don't always make the transition. If I could build it right the first time, I would bravely apply sealer and screw it all together the first try. But then, I would have to change my screen name to either Airspeed or Hodder, or one of those other folk who look like they know what they are doing.

Wow, Kristi, you're alive. Thought maybe a swamp thing had gotten you, or maybe a Mutant Mander!

Actually, you're pretty close to the truth, LOL!

I've been up in West Virginia/Pennsylvania/Ohio chasing Hellbenders (a big aquatic salamander) for work. I should be home for a while though, so I'm going to try and make up some build time! :D
