Trailer licenseing in PA

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby len19070 » Thu Feb 24, 2005 1:18 pm

I've never had so much trouble trying to give somebody money for nothing in my life. On my trailer photos for Harrisburg I put a Pa. tag on the trailer to show where tag goes.

6 weeks later I was told I couldn't have a Pa tag on an un liscensed trailer to take it off and resubmit. Took the tag off and photographed it & resubmitted. :o

6 weeks later I was asked where the tag goes. I put a piece of paper where the tag goes that said "TAG" photographed it and resubmitted. :(

6 weeks later I was told that was not a legitimate tag. Then I stood next to the trailer with a sign that pointed to where the tag goes that said "Tag goes here" photographed it and resubmitted.

6 weeks later I was told the person in the photo holding the sign that said "Tag goes here" had his/her left foot blocking a portion of the tire. To take another photo and resubmit. :x

Then I went over to an old Pop-up I had, took the tag off of it. Put it on the teardrop. Junked the pop-up and I was done. Its a game with them.

Good Luck

Len

len19070 Yep, that's Harrisburg for you. Most of those people that are supossed to be issuing your plates for a trailer don't have a clue.
I always keep my eyes open for old travel trailers that are junk, it's suprising how many people still have the titles and will give you the trailer and title just to get it hauled away. Besides all the useful parts you can scrounge off the trailer you get a good title in your name. All that is required then is to attach a trailer to it.
One thing to keep in mind is that PA registration cards don't say what type or make of trailer it is just the gross weight. So as long as you aren't using a registration from a 7k # trailer for a TD nobody is likely to question it.

I also agree with that. I currently dont do inspections but did for a little over 15 years for the republic of pa. Just get the frame tagged and titled then build whatever on it. As long as you dont overwieght the trailer your leagal. The problem I have is in Pa your not allowed to sign off on your own contruction/reconstruction anylonger. So I need to put it in someone elses name or get another St insp mechanic involved. The fun of pa. Also unless you are over 3500# or have trailer brakes you do not need yearly inspections.

You all need to just move to Wisconsin. We don't even register trailers under 3000lb. Teardrops are a freebie here.

I can fly in this week if you want... what are the requirements? :?

I can drink white wine for your candid teardrop shots... I can cook the burgers at the teardrop campouts... I can make models that you can whirl around...

Oh you mean, what can I do to make you money? Duh... never thought about that!

Mike,

You know if you come work for us you will find out what the Raindrop is sooner.

Heh, flying in to see us is easy too. We are on an airport and our shop is a hangar. You probably noticed the big door in build pictures.

Postby anonymous2 » Sat Feb 26, 2005 6:54 pm

Hi all,

Working with Cary on his Camp Inn's would be my dream job. I always wanted to work for a small speciality company, that takes pride in their work. The only problem ,the wife wants to move south. She said I could move to Wisconsin, but not with her. I don't know, all those great kayaking lakes,a great job, ahhh, I'll get back to you on that one LOL.
Hey Cary, any chance of opening a southern divison??

Too hot down there. We all start whining when it gets close to 80 out.

I've got 3 so my license plate bolts never even get time to get corroded! That's about the simplest solution in this state.
