 Thanks! No real pressure, just some parts of this will test my abilities.

I was actually joking with Dayna yesterday, I can do pretty much anything as long as I have instructions and the proper tools. It may not look the best, but it'll be done.

I think September is ample time. It'll at least be dried in and usable by then.

Image Dayna. Nice to see another couple working on a TD. I had a lot of trouble finding a pocket screw jig too. Finally HD got some in. :?

Enjoy

Question regarding jacks -

We had these welded on the rear:

I want to eliminate the tongue jack on the finished trailer. Would you go with the jacks above on the front or the quick drop down models like these below?

The quickdrop ones are nice, but in order to release them when down, you have to lift up on the trailer..... or raise the back jacks first.

SaGR, I don't have any experience using the ones on top...just seen 'em a couple of times...the bottom ones can be jacked up and down but the actuating mechanism can be a pain to work...however my bidnez partner uses one on the front of his little MC camper and it seems to work for him......

Order Link @ JC Whitney. http://tinyurl.com/3bwknh

We already have those mounted on the back of our trailer. I was just thinking of something quicker for the front that supports both corners.

Quick question -

Does anyone have the history of the Benroy? i.e. the original design and it's migration to the Generic Benroy design here?

I want to make up a display card like I have for my tractor at shows. This way people can read something at campgrounds and ask less repetitive questions :)

EDIT: I've found this http://www.outbackteardrop.com/benroy.html and it leads to a couple articles so I can assemble enough from this on the original.

Now what about the generic? I know it's Mike's design... when, why and etc. would be nice.

...back in the early '50's, a Mr Ben ? and a Mr Roy ? designed and built the trailers in California(maybe)...they were later sold under the name of King Richard(?)...the Generic Benroy was developed jointly by members here because of the ease making the profle and the bit of extra room that it afforded...hopefully someone with more info will add there bit here, since my CRS doesn't allow me to recall all the details...

"pink stuff" cut to fit tonight. Ran out of time before a TV show ;)

Tomorrow we'll glue and screw it in place. Has anyone tried TB III to help hold the insulation? Seems I read it somewhere but I'm not finding that post.

Floor is completed!

Went with an insulated sandwich construction of 1/4" bottom skin, 1" x 3" framing, 3/4" pink EPS insulation and a 1/2" floor.

Will post pics tomorrow.

Today we put on the first coat of undercoating. Opted to go with the white RV sealant I mentioned in the undercoating thread. Received 3 recommendations for it all from RV stores.

Well the floor is finished!

We were going to be sneaky and leave the steel grating in place for some protection to the floor. When we set the floor in place it left us with a 3/8" gap at the back between the floor and the angle iron.

All said and done I could live with a 1/4" gap and fill it with NP sealant. But not 3/8"! So today we're ripping out the grating. Now I have to buy an angle grinder...

One other thing I've learned and want to pass on to folks who buy their trailers new/prebuilt - ensure it's square when you buy it! Ours is off by 1/8"!

I can make it up elsewhere during the build but I know that's going to come back to bite me in the ass somewhere in the near future.
