Flooding In Coffeyville, Kansas

Postby Mike C. » Mon Jul 02, 2007 9:28 pm

The company I work for has a branch location in Coffeyville.
The river that runs through there has a flood stage of 20 ft
and today the river crested at 40 ft. The water plant has shut down
and there is no water from the tap. The refinery had a tank spring
a leak and now there is oil in the water running down the streets,
Our branch had 3 ft of water in the offices and warehouse when
the river crested. Our manager over there sent us some pictures
which I have posted below.

Not wishing to force my religion on you, but if you feel like it, a lot
of people there could sure use your prayers.

I used to go to Coffeyville 2 or 3 times a week. I kept a CT scanner working down there. Osawatomie just south of me is in similar situation except for the oil polution. People in those towns are losing everything. Very sad. And yes they are in my prayers. It will be hard to enjoy the 4th celebrations this yr.

We recorded 15.5 inches of rain from Friday night to Sunday morning.

Only a couple of houses got in the water.

My house is less than a quarter mile from the Marias Des Cynes river, luckily most of that is uphill.

We are three miles below Melvern Lake and the river was running bank full with the gates closed. Without Melvern Lake and Pomona Lake the flooding down stream would have been much worse.

I used to live in Coffeyville, I remember it didn't take much water for the river to get out.

 It has been raining really bad here in Texas. I had to put a new tarp over my build so it wouldn't get wet since I'm on teardrop time. We had 9" yesterday and tons more today. It will be a very wet 4th. I pray the rain will stop. Peg

Whodathunkit, we're suppose to have our hottest day of the year up here in the NW. And 9" in one day? That's a winter month for us.

I can tell Gage didn't get too close to Michigan. We barely got any rain last night. :o

There's been next to no rain all year here. Just temps in the hundred-teens :sweaty:
