Skinning - Questions.

You do not have to seal the inside or outside of layer 1 unless you think water is going to get at it from the inside - not putting in a suana are you???

I would temporarily attach your first skin- no glue - for the front so you can tow it down to get the trailer work done on it. You can remove the skin when you get thereand throw it inside the trailer while work is being done and then re-attach for the tow home.

You can permantly attach the the rest of the first layer and then wait on the second until trailer work is complete.

Fiberglass that thin may become brittle if you float it, but if you glue it make sure you have an even coat of glue so you do not get expansion problems when it gets hot this is really a fiberglass question for somebody else to way in on

You explained it fine. It shouldn't be a problem at all. Most TDs have a seam someplace. Plus since the fiberglass is going on after without the seam, it will be a huge water barrier.
Must say the EU sure likes to cause you trouble.

And what can I seal the seams between the wall and styro since the sun has dried that foam pvc enough to have small cracks there wher it should be sealed? Silicone, Sika Product or what would you recommend... ?

Rick or Martha or anyone.. Do you suppose it would help to staple that 1st layer maybe or no? I kind of hate to screw holes all over the ply...

Heikki, I installed the first layer of my 1/8" roof plywood with panel adhesive (in a tube) and nailed the plywood down with 1" nails. I feel it worked better than installing countersunk screws, whose heads were about as thick as the plywood. I then ran panel adhesive on the ribs and randomly over the 1st layer and also nailed it down the same way. I rely on the glue to do it's job, and not expect the nails to secure it forever.

I thought the styro was just for insulation. It seems to me where your main sealing is where the top layer of the roof & the sides meet where usually some kind of molding is used or sometimes epoxy with fiberglass tape for those who want not molding.
All the gluing, stapling, nailing or whatever would be just done to the wood, the spars going across & the walls going the other way.
At least that is my understanding of how it is usually done.

Martha yes the insulation is between the ribs.. blue styro..
The reason for me asking if styro sticks to ply is that I was going to glue it down to the styro as well.. using a Sika Product that is readily used over here.. but some glues tend to eat away the styro fairly quick..so have to be careful as to what type of glue is used..

I used pvc foam in a can and it sealed well but the tear has been in the sun and the PVC Foam dried and cracked at the end of the styro and between the walls.. I want to get them sealed before I close it up..

It does have the so called liquid nail also by the same company..(Sika)
