PA Campgrounds Open???? 7/9/2007

As fate would have it - we have the DA MOOSE already packed and ready to head out to French Creek State park and the radio announce that PA State gov't did not have a budget approval and that all state parks and other gov't runned buildings are closed. I heard that a couple from the mid west camping at a state park near Philly was told to leave.

Is there any chance that this can be cleared up by Tuesday???????? Vacation is running out..............................

Pennsylvania:
At this time all Government non-essential and park employees are not being paid.
Those non-essential services are shut down:

So as usual ... those services that most taxpayers would want to use are cut off.

Bill, you can go gamble in the state while your Vacca' clock is ticking as a
judge has mandated that the state run business will go forward. So you can
go against house odds while your waiting for a camping spot in the sun.

HARRISBURG – Governor Edward G. Rendell tonight announced that a tentative budget agreement was reached with legislative leaders just after 9 p.m. Monday. The pact, he said, means nearly 25,000 furloughed state employees will return to work at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and transportation, including Pennsylvania’s network of highways, bridges and mass transit systems, will be well-financed for the next 15 to 20 years.

I feel your pain............

We got back from French Creek and it was really nice. The park is huge and right next to Hopewell Iron Furnace. Plenty of trails and real close to Philly. Went to Philly on Wednesday and went to the Franklin Inst. - saw the TUT exhibit.

Just a tip,

Raystown lake in Pa is a beautiful place,but not during the summer. Sites must be reserved 6-12 months in advance for the summer. Go in early spring & fall. Sites are then first come first serve to certain dates. Just pick a site you like,pay when the ranger station is open. The first week in Oct- Nov are FCFS,and Mar to Apr,are FCFS. After that it's almost impossible to get reservations. If you are a canoeist/kayaker,say off the lake during peak season. It is a hornets nest of power boats,jetskis,and drunken rich kids with daddy's power boats. In the fall they go away,and the lake is beautiful with folage.
