gall bladder has to go

Postby peggyearlchris » Mon Jul 09, 2007 8:37 pm

 The doc says the gall bladder has to come out so tomorrow is my lucky day. I'm really not looking forward to this but I will feel better in the long run.
Doug Hodder is sending me some fabric so I can at least sew some curtains for my trailer. My build will be on hold for a couple of weeks. One of these days I will get this thing built. I know, it is tear drop time. Have a good one. :) Peg

Good luck tomorrow! I am sure your surgery will go well. Sounds like you caught it in time.

I had mine out just after Thanksgiving 2004 (after just being married in August!). I wasn't as lucky as you. About three days before Thanksgiving, I thought I had just a stomach ache. Nothing was staying down, not even water. I was also in intense pain. It felt sort of like heartburn, but much worse. I couldn't get comfortable or sleep. By Thanksgiving night I had had enough, and my husband took me to the emergency room. The doc determined that I had gall stones blocking my bile duct, and I had severe pancreatitis and my organs were starting to shut down. I was admitted to the hospital immediately. The emergency room doc told my new husband that had we waited two more days I probably would have been dead. What an eye opener!! After being admitted I was put on painkillers and all liquids. I could take nothing by mouth, not even water. Man, did I get a terrible case of dry mouth!! They finally let me start rinsing my mouth out as long as I promised not to swallow. Basically my pancreas had to heal before they could do the surgery to remove my gall bladder. The Monday after Thanksgiving I was well enough to have the surgery. They did it lapriscopically, and I was able to go home a few hours after the surgery.

My mother-in-law's doctor had been telling her that she would need hers out at some point. When she saw how much I went through, she went ahead and got hers out before it became a problem. Hers was outpatient surgery, and she was up and about the next day as normal. And she is 80! It took me over a week before I even began to start feeling normal.

So sounds like you will do just fine tomorrow! I'll keep you in my prayers for a quick and successful healing!!

So sorry to hear the news. I hope your recovery is speedy. You can't get out and get any meaningful work done with all the mosquitoes right now anyway.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Got mine out in 2001. Some of the worst pain I was ever in was passing those things. The last one plugged the bile duct completely. Until the last one I was at the hospital 2 times and they couldn't figure it out. Had it taken out lapriscopically and went to a wedding the next day. The only thing that bothered me afterwards was my shoulders. They pump up your stomach with air and it rises to your shoulders when you stand. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't of needed the pain killers.

Good luck tomorrow! You'll be fine.

Dittos!

Had similar attacks though not as severe in 2003, wasn't sure what the hell it was. Swung by the doc and he sent me over for tests (some fatty gloop you had to eat and the looked at it with a funky x-ray machine).

No stones at all. Mine was just not working so out it came via laparoscopic surgery.

I was told that no dietary changes were needed. Unlike in the early 70's when my dad had his out and was told NO fat int he diet.

:SG TMI Warning - The only problems I've had since is something I hear that's fairly common, if I eat foods that are high in fat I end up with diarrhea.

Been there Done that!! About 10 years ago. I was lucky and never really got to sick before they found the problem. I have to say my heartburn is a lot better now than before.

My thoughts are with you Peg.
