Crosses on Hill

Postby halfdome, Danny » Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:47 pm

While traveling through California in the Bay area we came across this hill covered with crosses to honor the American casualties from the war in Iraq. Please don't debate the war in this thread just honor our fallen troops, please :worship: . Danny

The whackos that put them up didn’t do it out of honor for the troops…

That is a very powerful picture, Danny. Thank you.

My heart goes out to the families represented by each one of those crosses. The fallen and their families are heroes who should never be forgotten.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

I agree Dan...it's a major political statement...nothing about honoring any troops, it's the Bay area afterall!!......like Arlington posts a number on the interred...don't think so... :( Doug

The waitress in the restaurant in that town said it was to honor the war dead, that's all I know except the neighbors worry about devalued real estate. Whatever the motive is or was these troops deserve our respect. It would be a shame if it turns into politics in this thread. Danny

Danny, it has become an unfortunate fact that any thing relating to Mr Bush's war is political...regardless of intent....

If you ask me, this is more impressive. Chocked me up, maybe because I was there. Now don't get me wrong. I support what is going on in Iraq, just think we should be carring a bigger stick.

Danny...I'm not saying anything against our troops, but living so close to the Bay area and knowing how they swing politically...well, I just question the intent. It might be an interesting search to see if the SF Chronicle posted any stories on this display and how they portrayed it. Doug

"The Wall" I experienced the wall in 1990 when my brother and I traveled back to Maine. I don't think it's possible to describe the mood or emotions that the wall evokes, it has to be experienced first hand.

Danny,
Unfortunately :( my presumption would be the Bay area group would be similar to the antiwar group that does the same thing at the beach in Santa Barbara and calls it Arlington West. The problem is the group is political & politics have been attached to it from the beginning here in Santa Barbara. :( I will say no more.

My son is in the Air Force currently serving in the Persian Gulf area & is due to come home, i.e. Ellsworth his regular base (South Dakota) the end of July. I certainly support the troops & honor the fallen ones who have given their lives for this country.

Oh didn't know. Looks pretty stark for over 50,000 dead. They could lanscape it better in my eyes. I could have been there, my company lost 75% of their men I was told. I was a short timer and stayed behind. They need to get busy for this war's memorial, Danny
