Midnight Fox - Missing Dog Toys and Bones - Pics

Postby Classic Finn » Sat Jul 14, 2007 3:22 pm

Well I just had to share this with you since we thought it was sort of cute interesting and sort of funny - Also a very true happening..

A few months ago the neighbors were saying they had seen a Fox in their yard several times.. ok .. Ive seen it around a few times as well..

And again it has been seen by many of us coming and going during the night hours and following its normal route...

One day another one of the neighbors said that they had seen the Fox in their yard trying to walk away with their dogs bone...and a few other items... well... being that we dont have stray dogs around and its illegal to have them off the leash in our area.. there had to be partial truth to the story about the Fox ... so while I was helping the wife today with a few things such as building a Vine Stand... and such and planting a few flowers and vines...

Oh About 2 weeks ago I saw the same fox with a couple of "lil ones" walking behind her"..

The wife was about digging in the flowers and all of a sudden says .. Would you come and take a look at this... please.. ok we dont have a dog nor can any dog get into our yard..so here are some pics to go along with the story....

That 1st photo is of my work that I had to do for the Honey Do List..I built the lil outdoor vine stand or vine wall there .. or what would it be called? I painted it this early evening..Got to keep the wife happy.. 8)

Now we are certain that the fox did steal a few of our neighbors dogs goodies and bury them nearby...

Im going over to the neighbors and ask if this bone belongs to their dog..

Can I possibly record the possible movement in our yard with the computer and our web cam ? Somehow or what could I use?
Most of the time the fox comes around her trail at 0200 and 0300 hrs.

Heikki, I know here we can get cameras at a sporting goods store that are motion sensing (used by deer hunters to record time of movement) I don't know how well they work in the dark. I'd bet someone here can tell you how to get your web cam set up but depending on your cam it might not be very good resolution. If you can catch Kerry aka Toypusher he has helped me with computer questions in the past. Good Luck

I used a program called Conquercam (not sure if it's still around) to grab pictures of birds on my feeder. You can adjust how sesitive it is, or select certain areas that you want it to watch.

Most webcams don't work that well in low light though. You'd be amazed at all of the activity outside your house. My webcam snagged pictures of birds, squirrels, people in the driveway, etc.

This what I'm talking about although that's pretty expensive for a single use you may be able to find it cheaper (this is thru Dick's Sporting Goods, a fairly large chain over here)

I know that for one my uncle has a theft alarm in his yard.. with 2 cameras in a couple of places.. and he can rerun the time recorded back using his TV but I bet its an expensive unit.

But what we would like is a not expensive way to catch this lil creature of the night on tape somehow..

It would really be interesting to see what happens in the yard at night...Ive seen the infrared binoculars here but no other devices..

The thing is I cant find any tracks ... at all..

I use one of those camera that BobGorilla mentioned, to capture pictures of deer out on my in-laws farm. The one I have only captures pictures, no streaming video. It works great, especially at night. The pictures are surprisingly clear.

That reminds me, I need to get them set up soon. When I meet Aubtie M for the first time, I want to have a venison roast for her and Mike to throw in the old DO!

  Throwing is a good word for it. Aunti M cooks her roast in a crock pot all day. LIke 8 hours. BTW---are Kentucky deer as mild as Missouri deer? Going to try my first roast on the DO tomorrow....

Heikki I used a black and white mini cam to see what was living under my shed. Since it was night, I had a spotlight shining on the spot. I used a capture card on my computer and just let it run all night....Good thing I had a large harddrive. Oh yes,...it was a skunk.....
