Finn Voyageur -Update Pics 4 U Y,all

Postby Classic Finn » Tue Jul 17, 2007 3:27 pm

Well its been sometime since any new pics or progress reports have been
made so here finally the rain let up and put in a long and full day..

The Voyager gets its outer skin.. Im not real enthused about the skinning
part but we got it on and whats even a fine and Happy sight to see is the Finn Voyager looks totally different than it did.. and in a Finntastic Way..
Boy it was a hot day in the sun today..  :sweaty: :fan: :hammer:
Its now 23:25 and got done cleaning up... :D :D :D

Ok before I get all the pics.. If you can find Bostik Glue there.. I can highly recommend it... I dont have a spray gun and such but good ol paint brush worked fine... The Bostik Product is Bostik 31.. You glue both surfaces and after that you only have a few minutes before it takes hold and takes hold Very Well.. So you have to get the ply or whatever you have set up and the way you want because you may not get a 2nd chance.. This product is excellent.. Before I used it I called the tech deptarment for glue advice and this is what they recommended.. and boy they werent kidding...so Bostik 31 is what I used and its great stuff.  recommended by the tech deptartment for ply, styrofoam, aluminun and other uses.

Ok I went out and got a few more photos and wouldnt you know it..
Its raining...

However we saved the outer skin which is Finnish Baltic Airplane Ply.

Okay Auntie M... Its all one sheet of 1.5 mm fiberglass - all 3 meters of it. So no seams to speak of once we get it installed..

If you remember we took an out of town excursion with my oldest sone Finn Boy...200 kilometers one way... just to get this...

So we do have enough and its real nice shiny quality.. If it dont rain tomorrow we,ll get the skinning done.. but as you may be able to see from the pics it is raining..no sooner than we got the fiberglass over the Voyager and it started...but ok Im happy ... to get this far today..

Hope you enjoy the pics... ;)

Well there she is... ya had me worried there for a bit... thought maybe I said somthing that I shouldnt have..in Off Topic at the Killer Thread.  Not me but my mouth..  Tell me its not so... :worship:

Mary K.. Yes the sides are aluminum.. and the front to back roof is all 1.5 mm thick fiberglass.. all over 12 feet of it   ...actually more than enough..plus hatch and for the towbox as well. And underneath we skinned Finnish Baltic Airplane Ply. Quality material for certain..No sanding required on it either. 8) 8)

I didnt know this but the fiberglass looks better than I thought or ever imagined  well in our opinion anyway..however we have planned that the top willy be vinyl...with aluminum or stainless frame like going around it.. these are our plans anyway.. but we may do so this early winter...if then... most likely get bored so I,ll do some work in the Under The Arctic Skies Shop since it will be dark for 6 months...UGH..
Very glad to hear from you... ;)

Best regards

This drawing is by Steve Wolverton as he drew on another thread ...but anyhow this is what we had planned to do on top of the white fiberglass using the aluminum that was too narrow for us to use on our roof ...so we,ll make a frame like around the edges using this aluminum and in the mid section use vinyl so it will have a nice decor to it..

I,ll have the edges Cnc cut to get the straight and evenly curved cut.. ;)

Heikki,
You are the MAN!

Great job there. It is really coming together.

You did use that airplane ply so you could fly over here to hang out with us down here in the states, right?

  :applause: :applause:

Heikki, Your build is LOOKIN GOOD..... Can't wait to see it completed.

Our roof is fiberglass roof coil that they use on 18wheelers. It is textured. We had a problem when we skinned the exterior of the hatch and had to use aluminum. Didn't like it at all (lots of dents and dings as it was used) Got another piece of fiberglass roof coil and it had a bit of gray on it so Charles painted it black today. Wow it looks great. I'm waiting to post our finished product. I want it pulled outside and washed. Hopefully I can post pics this weekend.
