I have a question concerning the cutting of the fiberglass ... does it have to be taped where its going to be cut? And can it be polished as you would a car? Or does it have to be a certain kind of wax?

Heikki,

Yes tape it where you are going to cut it and make sure you have support for both sides.

I would think you can use car wax on it just make sure it has no abrasives in it. I would use a carnuba wax or a liquid that you wipe on and wipe off

Thanks Rick.. It was windier than blazes all day today so nothing got done.. but asap.. We,ll use the clamps for the both sides and tape it.. :thumbsup:

I,ll look around for some Marine type wax as well.. So Wax On & Wax Off ... :lol:

About -15 or -20 is about right temp to work on a tear
Under the Arctic Stars.. :lol:

Shouldnt be long now though. This week it will have skin all the way on.
So 4 days of woikin time..

You're really getting there. Hope you get some nice dry days so you can finish skinning it. :worship:

I haven't been on the forum too much as we are getting ready for Mendocino, then a week later heading to South Dakota.
Hopefully I'll get some pics up when we get back form Mendocino, finally got the curtain so I can hang them. The galley is fairly done, some of the cabinets inside are basically done.
We need to go up to Mendocino just for a break

in non stop teardrop work. :lol:

I'll check about in on Sunday to see how your weather went. :thumbsup:

Its exciting to know its getting closer for sure..The Interior will then be started later. But we want to get the exterior done so we can go get it inspected asap.

Thank You Paul... I really appreciate the interest...and kind words. Im doing my best..

We dont exactly know if its the right or wrong way but we are gluing small sections at a time.. and taking time in doing so... :thinking:

Also Were not quite sure as to how to go about cut the ply and fiberglass where the Towbar goes under the frame.. :thinking:

and do I use wood or flat angle or flat aluminum to screw the ply and f-glass down under the cross section of the frame. :thinking:

Heikki, I use a piece of 42x19 Aussie oak, glued and screwed to the chassis as my fixing point. The ply attaches to that as well as the f/g. I do run the f/g past and about half way onto the crossmember and then use plenty of sikaflex sealant/adhesive to make a nice waterproof seal.
By the way, I use a cheap diamond wheel fitted to my angle grinder to cut the fibreglass. As of yet, I have not taped the area being cut and have not had a problem with splitting and chipping.

Paul (Down Under) or anyone else: What we would like to know is how this fiberglass skin reacts in High Temp days.. even though we dont have it for very long? And again what effect does cold temps have again? :thinking:

since we live in cold temp 6 months out of the year..here in the Arctic. :lol:

Who knows... we may get enthused to use our tear a few times this coming winter...

It would be sort of fun..with the matress covered with nice plush Reindeer Skins.
