This is the thread that has no end,
It just goes on and on my friend.
Some people started posting it not knowing what it was,
And now they'll go on posting it forever just because

Well, ahem, sir. You were the one who did not know how to serve Sake.![]()
As for an answer, it is the same as the answer to, "What color should a Teardrop be?"
The answer is, "It depends on your tastes."
As you can see from my avatar, I'm more of a Vodka dog, but I dabble with sake when I'm feeling frisky, and a Japanese way.
I personally like Sake quite warm -- almost hot -- about 100-105 degrees. Of course, a sake purist would suggest that sake only be served this way in cooler months, but I don't care.
If you want to go chilled, I recommend a premium sake, with less bite, and more fruitiness to it. Just as some vodkas are good for mixing, while only the premium vodkas are good straight, some sakes are better than others for serving chilled.
Cheap sake will go down better if warmed.
Gekkeikan is a respected brand, but they make several different sakes. Some are better than others for serving chilled.
If you serve chilled, serve in small glasses, like shot glasses. If warm, use small porcelain cups. You could borrow mine, but I don't know if they are worth the drive. To really impress your guests, garnish with flower petals.
Barbarrians, indeed. <huff>
