MMmmMMMM and where can i get information...

Postby cccamper » Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:07 am

oh yes! just asked about this in another thread!

this is something i want to learn to do. love to cook but the whole DO and open fire thing is new to me. when i was a kid out camping we didn't spend much time/effort on cooking. well.. maybe mom and dad did.. hmmmm :)

is there a cookbook? especially one that gives an anecdotal introduction to DO and open fire cooking? (am i even asking the right thing?)

thanks for any help,
elizabeth - who is now very hungry despite grilled sausage and potatoes!

I'm still learning but HERE is the place to start. Also a good source of information is from the Boy and Girl Scouts Handbooks and their website for Dutch Oven cookingHERE.

I hope that is a good start and ask questions and if you make any of the groups gathering I'm sure someone will help you in cooking with a Dutch Oven. ;)

jimqpublic posted this in another thread, and I like it because it has the temperature chart in it...

Mike...

P.S. Did you grab the T&TTT DO cookbook yet?

P.P.S.

TEMPERATURE
There are many ways of determining the temperature of your Dutch oven.
Every thing from the 2/3rds rule to the teaspoon of flour in a pie pan. We
will go over each way and explain the methods.
BRIQUETTES
Temp. 10ā€ 12ā€ 14ā€
Top Bottom Top Bottom Top Bottom
300 12 5 14 7 15 9
325 13 6 15 7 15 9
350 14 6 16 8 18 10
375 15 6 17 9 19 11
400 16 7 18 9 21 11
425 17 7 19 10 22 12
450 18 8 21 10 23 12
500 20 9 23 11 26 14
The above is a handy reference guide for your Dutch Oven heat settings, if
your oven is smaller or larger then the ones listed then you will have to use
the 2/3rds method.
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...
