230K...don't laugh...I'm thrilled!
The US is behind when it comes to rural areas...at least if the rural area is serviced by AT&T. ATT&T isn't upgrading their network services at all...while in our area local telcom cooperatives are putting all their profits back into infrastructure. There is a small community near me that is putting fiber to the door for every subscriber! Wish I lived there!
Even though my home is only 3 miles from the city I can't get either DSL or Cable. Recently I changed my cellphone from Sprint to Alltel with a Razr phone. I signed up for Alltel's data service and am now plugging my laptop into the cellphone and getting 230K! That's not blazing like some of you speed demons but it's worlds better than my old 42K dial-up (which actual was very good as dial-ups go). Plus it's totally portable!
I'm camping on Lake Pepin (Mississippi River) this weekend...I'll do the test from the comfort of my TD at the campground and even send a pic of the rolling electronic cottage.
