thanks Finn and welcome cavelady. It is so much fun to be here and talk to "the girls" or anywhere on the forum for that matter. You are very close to me in northern Ca. Make sure you check out the Pamplingrove site here on the forum and make plans to come to the IRG2 next summer. Several people here can tell you how great this gathering was last year and we are all looking forward to the next one.

I got to spend a night in the Sunspot!

Postby Gaelen » Sun Aug 12, 2007 11:19 am

I decided to spend last night in the Sunspot to test out the 'cot/daybed' sleeping method (needs work) and test/pack things like the water, stove, kitchen box, etc. It's parked along the treeline in the back field at the house my sister shares with her significant other, so it was shady, faced the sunset and offered a great view of last night's start of the Perseid meteor showers (well, this morning's start...they view best about 4 a.m.!)

Anyhow, this was my basic setup (with food box and chair stowed in the truck on the other side of the treeline:
Image

I found some farmhouse-style shelving units at Marshall's that I liked so much I almost broke a cardinal rule and paid the full Marshall's price for them. I'm going to try to hold out until they mark them down.

Here's a detail of the cot setup--the cot was too slippery on the linoleum floor, even with a sleeping pad under the legs. I think I'm going to go check out feather beds, and investigate some other sleeping options. The curtains were a splurge...JC Penney's has this style of bedding as quilt, shams, sheets, curtains and valances which are bleached muslin with a sage green/yellow/peach nine patch pieced border that keeps them light enough to move in the breeze. The valances were 80" long, so I could buy two--split one for the two smaller windows and use the other along my 50" wide front window. I just have to find another hanging solution besides the cheap cafe curtain rod holders, which stick out and are sharp if you bump into them. I'm thinking rounded wooden drawer pulls might be wide enough to secure the brass curtain rod, without being a puncture hazard to people who move quickly.

I want to finish the interior walls with something easier to keep clean than just the bare wood, so it's off to the paint store to look at stains. I really like the color and grain of the cedar and want to seal it more than add color. Time to pick the brains of the paint people at Lowes and HD.

Not sure how wide you are wanting for your bed but you might try finding an old waterbed frame with the drawers under it to put your mattress on. From your pic it looks like it would work there.

Hi Gaelen,

Looking at your set up, you have a lot of possibilities, the big question is, what are you looking for inside your trailer.

I like Cathy's idea of a waterbed type frame, with drawers underneath. Personally, I like a comfortable mattress for some people that isn't a biggie but for me it is. I purchased the 8" memory foam mattress from Walmart, total cost for a queen size was about $250. including tax. The mattress will be cut and the two sections will be a couch by day and bed by night.

Now if you're looking for something a little less intrusive on your space and you're looking at a single bed sleeping arrangement, there are those chairs that fold out into a bed. Don't buy the cheap ones for $29 bucks at a box store, instead look for a higher quality foam.

As for sliding on tile: Those foam shelf liners are great. I used them under the small carpets in my house so that don't slide. I also use one under the carpet in my TTT so it doesn't slide. It's quite effective and costs less than a buck a roll.

I don't think it would work with your present cot though but it is cheap enough to try it out. I'd simply cut up small sections and put them under each foot.

Hope that helps with your creative process.

Hi Ladies

Postby daveleb55 » Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:45 pm

I guess after a few weeks of poking around the forum, it is my turn to check in. My name is Kathleen and I have been bitten by the teardrop bug. Actually this build is a project to keep me from redoing my daughters room as she heads out to college this fall…leaving us an empty nest. I can’t think of anything better than a new build!

Joanne, thank you for encouraging Dave and I to jump into the pop up conversion feet first. We are almost ready to start the build. Plans are being drawn and items gathered. It is my hope the build be solar powered where possible and have a vintage flair to the galley. I've been concentrating on gathering vintage non-electric tools for the Galley.

Hi Kathleen!

It's good to have you as one of our "teardrop neighbors". I'm looking forward to seeing where your design takes you. Of course the vintage look is going to be awesome.

Joanne

I've been by passing by this thread out of respect for the title.
I never go to parties I haven't been invited to...
But jeez, its 16 pages long now and I know some (maybe most) of you are smarter than I am about building, so here’s my official notice….
I’m going to read this thread…I hope I’m not going to be embarrassed…

Welcome Kathleen.....Good luck on your building adventure. Make sure and document your progress well with pictures. We will be watching. I'm sure this project will keep you busy and you won't even think of the empty nest thing. Have fun collecting things for your trailer.

Ladies Only

Postby CAJUN LADY » Fri Aug 17, 2007 1:47 pm

I too am a teardrop owner, but not builder. I WISH I would/could have built the one I bought because I would have: 1-done a better job; 2-put cabinets in the galley; 3-put in 12v. But, I do love her ("Cajun Casa") and have personalized it for my comfort.

I recently attended the Ft. Clinch gathering and met so many great ladies and guys. One very nice couple, Lynn and Paul, have a really cool TTT called the Inkwell. They are doing a great job on it and it has so much room inside and at the same time, very cozy. I enjoyed being their camping neighbor. Wish it hadn't rained the first 2 days, but it was still fun.

I too enjoy all the ideas from this forum. I have purchased a couple of items thanks to some of the posts and have also steered clear of some because of many helpful comments.

I love seeing all the photos of decorating ideas and your great "lady handiwork" on your TD's. I applaud all of you :applause: Power to the ladies Teardroppers!

Welcome Cajun Lady and Kathleen. We sure are growing. Buying is fine cause you get to camp right away. Something I should have thought of. :R

You girls enjoy and we'll see you somewhere sometime.

Welcome to the new ladies, and the occasional male reader.... This is such a great group of ladies and I have enjoyed meeting many of you...

As we discussed earlier somewhere, I have really enjoyed having my calling cards... a must for anyone that wants to hand out something, mine has a picture of the "Cherry Drop" on it , my TearJerker and this websites, along with my email address. A definate plus at gatherings... Also, if you are building, decorating or just making your Tear "yours"... Network... tell everyone what you are doing... Friends like to share, if they know what you are using.... my tables are decopaghed with old Mary Engelbriet calendars because a gal at work heard me tell someone else I was using her stuff.... Enjoy, post pictures and I hope we can camp together some day!
