Some (minor) progress on Napsack!

Postby Creamcracker » Sat Aug 18, 2007 4:22 pm

After a Summer filled with planning and then the actual wedding of our oldest son ...family members from Wales....etc, etc...today I was able to get something done on Napsack. I'm working on the galley cabinets at the moment and thought you'ld like to take a peek!

Not finished yet - need handles catches and shelves!
I really like the way the tin signs add color to the cabinets....as well as identifying the theme.

:applause:  Now those are nice doors. Did you have them made special or is this something already out there?

I framed up the doors with 2" x 1" around a center panel that was slightly recessed and the same dimensions as the tin signs that are available. In my case I found and bought 3 signs that were the same size, and with the same theme. If I could find 2 or 3 more signs that were somewhat smaller I could use them in the cabin area -- I may yet be able to use some that I have with vintage British cars depicted.

Philip...when you get to that point...typically Route 66 fabric is readily available in a number of patterns at any given time...but I'll bet you already thought of that, or have it already....nice signs...I love that stuff! Looking forward to the rest of your project....Doug

Yes Doug --- we've been gathering items for the build for several months including this fabric that my wife will incorporate into a quilt cover.

I'm hoping to place a 4 to 5 foot graphic along the exterior side walls that depict the route of Route 66.
I really want to get on with the sides and interior cabinets now. Right below the pictured cabinets there will be a full width shelf approx 12inches deep that will house a small sink and faucet to the left and lift up storage to the right.
