Missouri in December?

Postby oklahomajewel » Thu Aug 16, 2007 8:44 am

Just looking ahead .... Rich S mentioned a little winter campout possibility for somewhere in Missouri , right after Thanksgiving or maybe the first weekend of December.

I'm up for it.... the really cool weather during the day, the fallen leaves and crisp air, the cozy campfires and cuddling up .....

What does everybody else think?
I won't do the organizing or campground selection, all I know of is Knob Noster where we went last year .

I hope Rich S. or someone else will organize a little winter campout there !!

I'm thinking cold weather camping might be fun for a change. Knob Noster is close for me also. Cuddling or huddling around the fire sounds like the way to go. :D

Check this out. They have a photo of a T@B on the main page. Is it anyones on the forum?

Sounds good to me, I LOVE cold weather camping!

If I have my new tow vehicle by then, count me in (my beloved old truck is being retired to 'close to home trips'...).

Winter camping sounds good to me. Snuggling is one of my favorite past-times. Keep us informed.
As long it is in Missouri and on a weekend, we should be there. :)

Well Del was planning on coming through here about that time and might like to stay close to I-70 and we could all see that beautiful build.

We are in as long as it isn't 30 degrees and the wind blowing.

That sounds like a good idea!!
I'll be heading back up to Precious Moments before Christmas anyways, so I might as well drag something up there behind the truck.

There is a campground in Nevada, MO. Osage Prairie Campground which is right off 71 Highway.

This is about 1-1/2 hours south of Kansas City and about 1-1/4 hours North of Joplin. They are open year round. Might take a look at this and see what you think. :)

Gary checked with the Missouri State Parks ... and they shut off the water at the bathrooms after October 31st. So we might have to go to a commerical campground. The one Mike suggested looks like a good one. If any one has never been to the Precious Moments attraction, it is definitely worth the trip for that alone. Plus Fort Scott Military encampment is neat too. Everything will be decorated for Christmas. We are all for staying at Nevada MO if it works for everyone else!
Where ever we raise the hatch is home.
Darn blank states keep getting further away and we keep traveling slower ain't never gona get this map full.

We might be up for Nevada in December. The camp ground might be pretty accommodating in December, I don’t know what kind of business they have that time of year. Maybe it will cool off by then.

How about camping in Ft. Scott KS? It's only a little west of Nevada MO and there are some neat things to do around there.

http://www.fortscott.com/

I called this campground and their current rate in December is $12 a night. They may raise those rates a couple dollars between now and then but it still seems pretty reasonable.

Just thinking out loud,

They both sound good. Only $12 a night sounds really good. Do we know if they have the water on in Dec. Maybe we can go to Both between Sept and Dec.

Now if it gets really cold can we all migrate to where ever it is warmest.

If it is workable I would like to crash your campout, that is if you will allow someone from the northwest   to join in. I have driven across missouri once so I have no idea where anything (points of interest) is. So let me know where and when, and I will do my best. Now if it would stop raining here I could get some work done.

Winter Camping in Missouri

Postby monkeyfingers4 » Sun Aug 19, 2007 9:52 pm

We would love to camp around Nevada, MO in December. We have been looking for an opportunity to hook up with some teardrops and love cold weather camping, also.
