Wondering - how did you keep the epoxy from running? I call mine the "water fall" texture.

It looks beautiful. :applause: :applause:  :applause:
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Oh, John, that looks fantastic!!!
:envious: Now I am envious.

For us epoxy nitwits....okay, I will speak for myself, exactly how did you apply the epoxy? Spray? Brush? Was it easy or a PITA??

Thanks

Mk

John,

That is so pretty. That just goes to show you, some things are worth waiting for..

Do you have a close up of your galley hinge in action?

Mary.. I brushed on the sides...on the first side I found I put it on too thick, I had to keep going back and rebrush the drips and sags. The second side I put less on, and didnt get any drips. The top and the hatch I used a roller... went on real sweet, and thin... no runs drips or sags. Wish I could have used a roller for the whole thing, but the gingerbread kinda sticks out too far.

Speaking of the gingerbread molding, I was going to round off my edges....Then thought NAAAA, it looks good, why screw around with it? I'd probably ruin it by gouging it all over the place. Are you still going to round off your edges? and how's it going????

Beautiful tear!! :applause: :applause: :applause:

It seems that the epoxy really brings out the beauty in the wood...

And great woodworking skills also help!

Epoxy process

Postby Creamcracker » Tue Aug 21, 2007 6:22 am

Hi John --- looking good on that build -- love the depth of that shine....
Personally, I'm a bit lost with this "Epoxy thing." Appreciate some help from you all. I went to the local hardware store and the only epoxy there was for application on the garage floor --- is this the same epoxy that you put on the teardrop? What is the process? Sand/ stain?/polyeurethane?/epoxy? exactly what brand type etc? more epoxy? more polyeurethane? I was simply going to use a good quality polyeurethane and apply several coats to the exterior but now I'm not so sure! Appreciate someone guiding me through this part of the build process.
Regards to all,
Philip

Try a boating place like West Marine or Boater's World, they have epoxy. It is the same stuff that boats, airplanes, and race cars are built out of. In this application, the epoxy acts like a varnish of sorts.

West Systems has a nice resource that you can look thru. They also offer this as a hard copy for free.

I am still planning on rounding the edges...although I had to give back the router I borrowed..... I had it for 4 months and THIS MORINING the guy needed it back! I only need a few days the to get the plugs sanded down so I can use the router... :fb Then it would have only taken an hour to router everything... Figures huh??? But it WAS his router.

Thanks for the info on the epoxy, I was just curious, it looked so good I figured you had sprayed it on.
